My name is Casey “Rocket” Rocket and somewhere towards the end of the summer I lost my breath. Eventually I realized I was breathing so hard I couldn’t hear myself walking away from the things I used to run towards. I’ve been playing hooky on my destiny. If you find yourself feeling alone in places where you used to give anything to stay even a few extra seconds, it may be time to rethink your surroundings. It’s okay to ask for somebody with a bit more experience telling angst to reset your clocks. This morning I remembered telling an old girlfriend if I knew how to play guitar I would have been gone a long time ago. Plenty of coal trains need a bottle man without a muse. In lieu of checking the train yards for open mic signups, or a bigass coin or similar treasure, I’m going to get some help for a while before I film the hour I’ve been running for ya’ll on the road for the last 2 years. Don’t fret for fair weather riffs. It’s high time I learn how to get along with my skin feeling light for once instead of different shades of leather. I once told myself (in confidence) “where there’s a riff, there’s a way.” And I intend to keep that promise to myself, and to ya’ll. Fort Knox is quivering at the mere thought of it. Until then, I’ve got a couple overdue layers to shed in some welcoming rooms with some nice people with some warm smiles. Even though I’m pushing the rest of this year’s tour dates, I can say with a bleeding heart, my pockets just STUFFED with rubies, and devious resolve that I’ll see ya’ll soon with riffs in tow. Same as it ever was. You’ll be okay too. Again. I’ve never been more sure of it. - 🦀

There was a solid… 18 month stretch recently where I’d find myself just cooling it treeside with creatures like these. Exchanging customs and rudimentary speech. Naturally, due to laws of gods and kings alike, most went unspoken. But there’s a lot to be said about a comfortable silence shared amongst soldiers of fortune. I remember, on days like these, breaking bread and cracking wise with whatever these things (?) are called 🦘 We felt we may live to be 100. But as the sun begun its nightly mating dance to court the fertile darkness, we prepared alone together for all the uncertainty that comes with its arrival. Even our untethered laughter - seemingly invincible only moments earlier - grew quieter as the fire we shared grew dimmer. Before, inevitably, the afternoon of merriment we had just shared as quiet strangers fell victim to the distance and disrepair that all memory is subject to. And yet we remained sat opposite one another, each with bated breath, reduced to little more than the crackling memory of smolders under an indifferent nighttime sky. Each waiting for a cosmic martyrdom that never came. Those things got stomach backpacks too 🥺 ➡️🎒a crueler evolution perhaps never awarded for a species of non-readers 🦘 I’m going riffing again next week after a hiatus. Looking forward to it ya’ll 🦀
