I am delighted to announce that I am now an Illustration Manager at Disney Publishing! My job includes - among other things - character design, concept art, and illustration, as well as guiding our freelance artists through the creative process. And it is my great delight to get to draw Tinker Bell and all her fairy friends. ✨🧚🏻✨

Drawing Tink is always a bit of a self-portrait. She helps me to embrace my natural body shape and feel like a pretty pixie.
For this version, I gave her back her bun and let the ends of her hair points fall into soft curls on either side of her face. I made the pom-poms on her shoes a little bigger and played with the leafy material of her dress, letting the light shine through the green.
My favorite part to draw besides the shoe poms was her hair bow. I used it to accentuate her movements. I also gave her her tinker’s hammer whenever I could, and even included her tool belt in a spot illustration. ✨🔨

Fawn is such a fun and expressive character. I love her heart for animals and her easygoing, tomboyish energy. Her long braid is also so fun to draw! For my version of Fawn I played up her outdoorsy qualities with freckles, some rough-and-ready stitching on her costume, and sleeves to protect her skin as she cares for her animal friends. 🧡

For those wondering who my favorite fairy is, here she is, my love, my muse — Silvermist! I’m a water fairy at heart, so it’s Rani in the books and Silvermist in the movies for me. I love her chill vibes, her quirky comments, and her beautiful blue dress. I added some dewdrop ornaments to her outfit in the book (though the pixie dust covers them here.) 💦🫧

Rosetta has maybe my favorite expression in this scene. While all the other fairies are curious about the spoon in their own way, she is just openly judging. I think she considers it a bit ugly. 😆 Hopefully she’ll come around when she sees what Tink can do with her tinker skills. ✨🥄✨🔨
For this book, wanted to add a little something to each fairy. Garden fairy Rosetta got flowers on her shoes and in her hair. I like to think she would be pleased with the new accessories. 💐

Part of the fun of illustrating this book was getting to play up each fairy’s personality. Here, Iridessa wonders if she should be afraid of this strange new Lost Thing Tink has found. I also wanted to add a little something to each fairy to emphasize her unique talent. Light-talent fairy Iridessa got extra sparkles in her hair. ✨
