From our brilliantly gifted Parkening Scholar, @caseypearce10 : Koyunbaba, which in English means, “The shepherd,” was written by Italian composer Carlo Domeniconi. Because Domeniconi spent a significant amount of time living and studying music in Istanbul, Turkey, Koyunbaba draws heavily on the traditions of Modal Turkish folk music. This particular version is a shortened version of the original suite done by Maestro Parkening and Domeniconi in collaboration, in order to make the piece more suitable for the time constraints of televised performances. Another unusual aspect of this piece is that the entire guitar is tuned to a C-sharp minor chord, with all except the high E string having their pitches altered. Because of the ancient influences Domeniconi relies on, it is likely there is some similarity between Koyunbaba and the music that Jesus Christ would have heard during his life on Earth.

Big things to come! A late-night practice clip of the Cappricio Dibolico. This monstrous 10 minute long piece by Castelnuovo-tedesco is going to be one of the feature pieces of my recital in April!
