It’s here! Well, physically speaking, my guide to all things dinner party, cookout, and potluck will be in your hands on May 20th. But today is the day I calmly without a hint of desperation ask you to please pre-order What Can I Bring?: Recipes to Help You Live Your Guest Life.
Click over to my bio or ask your local bookstore to pre-order a copy. And if you don’t mind, tell everyone you know, start a chain email, send one of those 💦👅 group texts, whatever feels good.
Ok love you bye!
Today’s the day—What Can I Bring? is officially out in the world!
No one makes a book alone, and this one is especially the product of a community. To every person who tested a recipe, read a draft, wrote a blurb, or showed up to set: this is our book and I can feel the love on every page.
A huge thanks to my editor @clo_nyc for helping me write exactly the book I wanted to write, @gentlandhyers@tyna.hoang@stephanie_de_luca for creating the photo shoot of my dreams, @unionsqandco for producing such a gorgeous book, and @alisonfargis for always having my back.
I can’t wait to see what you bring! ❤️
Episode 6 of That Ate is a bit different; special, really. Instead of explicitly unpacking queerness in food, we let it exist in the conversation.
I’m joined by @caseyelsass , cookbook writer, recipe developer, and the “cookbook doula” behind nearly 20 books. But What Can I Bring? is his first solo cookbook, and by coincidence, we were writing and publishing our first books at the same time.
We didn’t know each other before that, but somewhere in the process, a friendship formed.
We dive into Casey’s career as a cookbook ghostwriter and co-author, but more than anything, this episode captures what happens when two people move through the same experience at the same time, and how that can turn into something more.
Very queer food, if you ask me.
If you’ve ever thought about writing a cookbook, or just want a deeper look at how they come together, this one’s for you.
And, shout-out to the cookbook class of Spring '25, love y'all 🫶
