I made this series of screen prints in response to my community’s collective acts of care and resilience in the wake of an egregious and inhumane surge of federal agents in our state. I find comfort in language’s power to inform and inspire us through the spectrum of human experiences and I wanted to use my skills and resources to help spread some positive messages to my peers doing mutual aid work in support of our immigrant neighbors. With allusions to the US Constitution, the teachings of MLK Jr. and bell hooks, Samuel Beckett’s writings on endurance and contradictions, and the perennial questions we ask ourselves, these posters evoke our ancestors and creative thinkers in recognizing the inherit value we all embody as members of a community. We are tending to each other, leaning into the moment, and leaning on each other in acts of resistance and rest. We will continue to bear empathetic witness as we inhabit and co-create a civic life in earnest. Long overdue documentation of a book Leslie Grant and I made last summer. “Bore Fields” documents our 5 month-long residency through Coffee House Press: In the Stacks at the Laurence McKinley Gould Library at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. Edition of 1 with 2 artist proofs. We are happy that it lives safely in their special collection and is used as a teaching and learning tool for Carleton’s community. Leslie and I are currently sending out proposals to publishers in the hopes we can publish this book and share this project on a wider scale.
