Historic Hofer House | Primary Bath Case Study Swipe to see how a few intentional shifts changed everything. In older homes, space is precious and a double vanity isn’t always the answer. The before shows it was squeezed in at the cost of comfort. The person standing at the sink closest to the door would need to move to open the door, so we edited back. We moved to a single vanity, let a soaking tub take center stage, and tucked the toilet discreetly behind the door. The result: a larger shower, smarter storage, a few extra feet of breathing room, and a bath that actually feels calm when two people are using it. Sometimes the most impactful design moves are the quiet ones. #historhoferhouse Photo: @_karamercer Design: @jordyleeallen @marlakaba @suspish_bish13 , Casey Keasler GC: @ostmoconstruction Styling: @lsag and Casey #caseworkit #caseworkinteriordesign #primarybathdesign #historicrenovation #beforeandafterdesign #thoughtfuldesign #bathroominspo #beforeandafter

Our Seattle Dutch Colonial Project — and the case for not creating a formal dining room! 🍽️ Homes from the 1900s, while beautiful don’t always function the way a modern family might want, they are closed off and compartmentalized, even dark, and most importantly, lacking connection. There were versions of open concepts in the 70s but the kitchen was often tucked away behind closed doors. It wasn’t until the ‘90s the thought was pushed to extremes with the fully open concept plan. We all know everyone hangs out in the kitchen! However, an open concept can quickly become artificial in a home built in 1915. Enter our Seattle Dutch Colonial - keeping the scale of the home and the neighborhood in mind, the two-story addition didn’t allow for a dedicated dining room on the main floor. So our clients opted for a large eat-in dining room, fully open and connected to the kitchen but mindful of the 1915 bones and scale of the home. Swipe to see the plan changes and photos of the space. Head to the link in our profile to see the full home story! Our Historic Hofer House kitchen, breakfast table, and entry have subtle but impactful plan changes. Swipe to see the before and after. Look more closely at the plan, and you'll see that the sink, fireplace, exterior windows and doors, and access to adjacent rooms all stayed in the same place. The biggest change was moving the cooking area out of the clunky island to a dedicated wall. By making this one move, we were able to bring in a powerful hood and create a counter-height island that let those who weren't cooking feel part of the work without being, ahem, in the way of the cook! 🧑‍🍳 Photo: @_karamercer Design: Jordan Allen, Marla Kabashima, Miranda Williams, Casey Keasler GC: @ostmoconstruction Styling: @lsag and Casey #caseworkit #caseworkinteriordesign #kitchendesign #historicrenovation #beforeandafterdesign #thoughtfuldesign #beforeandafter #kitchenremodel

Throughout the life of a project so many materials pass through our hands as we narrow in on the perfect ones. I have wanted to document these for quite some time, especially the ones we don't end up using. So many beautiful material combinations that never see the light of day! Here's one that did, our Historic Hofer House. #caseworkit #historichoferhouse #interior #interiordesign #interiordecor #home #homedecorating #renovation #remodel #historichome

Scenes from February. This morning, as I was reading Holly Howard's latest newsletter titled "Why We Starve Artists," this quote hit me. "We have to recognize that the answer to a world in flux isn’t more control—it’s more creation. Control is an attempt to freeze the frame; it’s a preservation of a status quo that has already set the world on fire. Creation, however, is the only way through. It requires that we aren’t just producing objects for a market, but participating in a transformative, ancestral lineage." Sit with that for a minute, will ya?! Onward! 1. Our Historic Hofer House was in the @theoregonian recently! Thanks @janeteastman for the story 2. Meeting new clients, this is Moon the cat! 3. @lsag outside our newest project, a Colonial in the Alameda neighborhood of Portland, and Moon's house. 4. Our clients' @pattymeltworldwide rug at the blocking process phase in Nepal. 5, 6 and 7. Mt. Tabor Home in the final stages. Sauna and basement updates are almost complete with rorange trim and doors and a black marble slab 🐯 7. Marla stopped in to review the burl wood layout for a coffee table we designed!

Scenes from January, in mid-February. I’m easing back into part-time studio work after Alma’s arrival, and life has been a whirlwind. With all the uncertainty in the world, design can feel trivial. One thing that fuels me each day is that we get the opportunity to add beauty to this world. I'm grateful to the incredible Casework team, who've made my transition back into work smoother and helped me feel a little less 😵‍💫 each week. 1. Team meeting with @jordyleeallen and @marlakaba for our Mt. Tabor Home 2. Garthwick Mid Century Home before primary bath plan - we're reworking the primary bath and kitchen, so I thought I'd share some of the in-process drawings. 3. Garthwick Mid Century Home - Proposed Primary Bath layout and some alts considering towel and mirror placement, important and often overlooked details in a bathroom 4. Garthwick Mid Century Home - Primary Bath Opt 1 5. Garthwick Mid Century Home - Primary Bath Opt 2 6. Garthwick Mid Century Home - entry screen wall option. We're working on feedback and refining a version of this glass screen wall for future design reviews. 7. Longview Craftsman - finalizing window covering and upholstery fabrics 8. Me trying to capture @lsag essence in a single photo 9. Mt. Tabor Home - bath and sauna floor 🐍 10. Ladd's Guest Bath Update - final details coming together for this bathroom refresh #caseworkit #interiordesign #midcenturydesign #craftsmanhome #saunadesign #bathroomdesign #bath

Meet Alma Louise Keasler! She arrived at 3:23 am on Sunday, October 26th—5 lbs 3 oz of Scorpio spunk—just a few days before my 48th birthday, we’re now a house of Scorpios! 🦂♏ I came to this chapter late in life, after many years of focusing on my career. Having a baby never felt like the right time for me; I was busy. I’m grateful for the ability to change my mind and not only want to have a child at 47 but to be able to make it a reality. I heard more “no’s” than I expected when trying to conceive. Geriatric pregnancies begin at 35. In medical terms, my body is ancient. Once pregnant, I had to regularly advocate for myself, a high-risk pregnancy because of my age, and for Alma. To anyone navigating the judgment around age and childbirth, I see you, you are not alone! I’m deeply grateful for my incredible team, who are leading Casework while I find a new rhythm with Alma. The slowness required to nurture a newborn is unlike anything I’ve ever known, and while I’m learning every day, this transition feels bigger than “parental leave.” It’s a profound growth edge for me in resting, releasing control, and trusting the people around me. I haven’t stepped away from my work for longer than two weeks in over two decades, so this season of stillness is new—and needed. I’m welcoming the ebbs and flows, the highs and the lows. Thank you to my community for the texts, calls, check-ins, meal deliveries, hand-me-downs, flowers, gift cards, and every small gesture of love. I’m grateful to my extended family for caring for Izzy, running errands, making meals, washing dishes, and being steady voices during this major life transition. And to my partner, Jeff—thank you for meeting me on this long journey. For listening as we processed so many medical possibilities that came up because of my age. I’m grateful to you for being a cheerleader when I needed encouragement, for showing up during these sleepless nights, and for being Alma’s dad! This moment feels both tender and expansive. I’m grateful to be here—learning, resting, and welcoming Alma into our world. 💛
