We want to dedicate this nomination to the late Audrys Karalius, a longstanding independent expert of the Mies van der Rohe Awards. Three days before his passing, we had a genuine conversation about our project - its complex context, its resilience, and special ability to heal the scars of the past by restoring, integrating, and rediscovering the beauty of a once-torn landscape. Preila’s summerhouse - Best House Interior in Mano erdvė 2025 🥂 Hopefully, pine will be quietly taking back its place in interiors, as precious local wood.

Made from apple wood sourced from the Vytautas Magnus University Botanical Garden in Kaunas, given as waste material after tree maintenance. Centenarian pine handle Made for a heritage fisherman’s house from dismantled pine logs that required replacement. In this Preila summerhouse, floors, windows and furniture are crafted from solid pine. Softer than many other woods, pine still proves itself as a resilient and beautiful material. It carries an atmosphere of ease and leisure and unmistakably, a sense of place that is deeply local. #preila #curonianspit #solidpine

A bit of context from the Curonian Spit: pine is ever-present: it leads the way to the sea, sways beyond the windows, and greets in old fishermen’s cottages. For this project, we drew inspiration from old postcards of sandy dunes and pine forests where life feels quietly enveloped by the landscape.
