Situated in the Italian Alps, 140 km from Venice, Casa Lollo lies in the Province
of Trentino. Having been a strategic border outpost between Austria and Italy in times
of the Habsburg empire, the town hosts this modest palazzo, a historical heritage of
the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy with walls that date back to 1763. Formerly used as a
family residence, together with a summer dependency in the adjacent Valley of
Sella, this palazzo of character has traversed decades, collecting uncountable stories
and hosting personalities from around the world.
Charlotte Strobele, a former art historian and professor, hosted an abundance of artists and exhibitions at the palazzo since the 1970’s, nurturing an international community in harmony with a local one. Her tenure wrote an iconic chapter into the walls of the palazzo over the past few decades, one of hospitality, dialogue
and creation. In 1986, she co-founded the land-art collective ARTE SELLA, which has since grown to a renowned institution for sustainable and ephemeral art and architecture.
Carlotta, or Lollo, lived a life dedicated to art, education and the natural environment.
The Casa Lollo Residency 2025 intends to manifest this legacy and build on it in the future.
