Today I turn 20,000 days old.
(The first 3 photos are me when I was about 5000 days old, the next 4 are around 10,000 days, then several at the 15,000 day mark, and finishing with current pics from the last couple months.)
20,000 days on Earth. It’s hard for me to grasp. In my mind, I’m still the guy in the middle of these photos, with whipped cream on my chest, singing with a band, or the kid jumping off his parents’ Suburban in the driveway, not a grey haired man about to turn 55.
Time is weird. And getting old is a blessing. I wasn’t really supposed to be here; I got burned at 18 months old, got Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at age 10, got cancer at age 30. I got married and divorced in my early 20s (and then stupidly did both again 15 years later).
And when I picture myself, I’m kinda frozen in time as a fairly young adult, kind of a comic book character who never ages. I feel about 30-ish, not almost 55.
But when I think of all the things I’ve seen, places I’ve been, people I’ve known, and loved, and lost, and especially when I look in the mirror and see that guy with the white beard looking back, I feel every bit of 20,000 days old. There are plenty of those 20,000 that sucked and I would love to give back, but in the end, I’m grateful to have been here for them. And the past 1000 or so have been quite a bit happier than I thought I’d ever be at this age.
If you’re reading this, thanks for being my friend. ❤️
So I voted early in the primary. Quick and easy process; thank you to the election officials in Travis county for a well run operation.
When I looked up my sample ballot, I learned that I’ve been redistricted into Michael McCaul’s district 10. Gross (although I do relish the opportunity to vote against that despicable money-hoarding racist).
Look at district 10! I live in Lakeway, on the far west side of Austin. Why am I in the same district as my friends in Pflugerville, Smithville, La Grange, Brenham and Katy???
THIS is why no one should EVER vote for or trust a Republican. They’re total crooks, trying to rig elections.
I’d like to encourage anyone in my district (which stretches all the way to Houston!) to vote for Caitlin Rourk, and send McCaul back home to Round Rock!
Damn Sagittarians… gotta be all charismatic and stuff. They didn’t make any others like Miss Norma Rios. Happy birthday to the sweetest bruja to put a spell on me; I love you.
Come celebrate with us and @riverboatgamblers tonight at the Mohawk!
