Happy to report that our very first Storyfest was a big success! 🎉📚 We started on the beautiful front lawn of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library with some songs and a storytime with author Katrina Moore reading her springtime book, HOPE IS A HOP. 🐰🌷 Then we paraded down the Freedom Park Trail with our Storyfest banner, trumpet music 🎶, and a StoryWalk® of @oge_mora 's book, THANK YOU, OMU, a beautiful story about sharing, giving, and coming together as a community. 💕🥣 (Thank you, Ms. Isabel, @fulcolibrary , and @friendsofponce for the StoryWalk®!) We finished our day on our preschool playground, which had transformed into a magical place filled with all sorts of storytelling! 🎉🎨🎤🎸🎺📚 (AND bubbles! Balloons! Pizza! Oh, my!) It was a perfect day to celebrate community, connection, and storytelling! 🥰 #preschool #preK #storytime #storytelling #author #picturebooks #kidlit #bookstore #bookseller #community #neighborhood #Storyfest #StoryWalk #librarian #libraries #read #reading #books @katrinamoore1011 @littleshopofstories @carterlibrary39 @fulcolibrary @freedompreschool @freedompark_atl

Today is #InternationalNursesDay! We love honoring Miss Lillian Gordy Carter for her amazing work around the world. Starting her career as a registered nurse at Wise Sanitarium in Plains, Georgia, she would go on to treat many of the local residents independently, and often free of charge (or charging only nominal fees like cornmeal) in order to ensure money was not a barrier to healthcare. At age 70, Miss Lillian joined the Peace Corps to help run a clinic in Vikhroli, India. Today, the very hospital in Plains where she started (and where Jimmy Carter became the first president born in a hospital) is named after her. To all the nurses around the world, thank you for all you do! You truly make the world a better place.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the strong women out there holding it all together! These two ladies certainly knew a thing or two about raising strong-willed and ambitious children! Allie Smith (Rosalynn’s mother) and Lillian Carter (Jimmy’s mother) sit in rocking chairs. What do you think they were chatting about?

Today we honor the life and legacy of an Atlanta legend, Ted Turner. As a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves, Jimmy Carter developed a close friendship with Turner over the years, often attending games alongside him at Atlanta’s various ballparks. In this photo, President Carter is pictured with his mother, Miss Lillian, at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Turner was also a dedicated supporter of the The Carter Center and its global mission. Before the Braves’ game against San Francisco on September 15, 1997, he presented President Carter with this signed jersey commemorating 15 years of the Carter Center “Waging Peace” around the world. While we mourn the loss of an extraordinary figure, Ted Turner’s impact on Atlanta, and far beyond, will continue to be felt for generations to come. #CarterLibrary #PresidentialLibrary #AtlantaBraves #TedTurner #ATL
