what started on a whim based on something @koobiegram saw on tiktok has turned into more than 2 and a half years of hosting our friends (and theirs!) at our place almost every other weekend for coffee, homemade syrups, and treats (@carter_eats ).
after moving here in 2022, it was challenging to meet new people — we knew only about 3 people living in pdx at the time (hi @mynamezflorida@flownderr ) — and establish community in a way that felt meaningful. so we thought we’d give a home café a try. while at the beginning we would sometimes entertain just one or two people (shout out @katiebon4 ) — a few weeks ago we had over 25 people stop by, if only to say hello for a few minutes.
words can’t describe what hosting coffee house has meant for us. our community amazes us every day. we’ve seen people step up for each other for pet sitting, meal trains, clothing swaps, and so much more. plus, we even dropped our own sweatshirts with the help of @amandakentdesign !
we hope we can continue this tradition for many more saturdays to come (from 10-12).

apple & blackberry streuseltaler for this morning’s coffee house 🍏 made with granny smith & honeycrisp apples. recipe from @jillian.barreca 🤍 these were absolutely amazing!! i loved the flavor and the marzipan streusel. will 100% be making these again soon!

finally putting the chocolate batons i’ve been hoarding to use
wheewwwww haven’t made true laminated pastry in years and it is def a labor of love. 3 days of prep. 7+ hours of rolling out dough by hand (wrists are still recovering). plus waking up at 4am to get them ready for coffee house 🙂↕️
i used @nicolaalamb ’s pain au chocolat recipe from Sift and got my most successful layers yet! still lots to be learned and more croissants to come i’m sure.
not now sweetie i’m busy thinking about copenhagen again ….

ny cheesecake with raspberry sauce (honestly looks a bit gory) — yes it cracked. yes it’s because i didn’t let it cool in the oven & i didn’t use a water bath bc lazy. yes it was still delicious.
