In spirit of #mocomonday I thought I would share a Bolt reel I threw together last Fall. I'm incredibly grateful to have worked with so many talented people over the years. One of the best parts of being a motion control operator is having the opportunity to collaborate with a vast variety of brilliant, creative minds, showing me new ways to look through a lens and envision the shot. I look forward to seeing what shots we come up with together as the year carries on!
With the 2026 MLB Season underway, I thought I would share some BTS from a Milwaukee Brewers shoot we did.
Using the Bolt Jr+ on track and Flair, a world of creative possibilities opens up for media day shoots with professional athletes. When you only get as short as 2 minutes with talent sometimes, the use of motion control becomes paramount when teams are tasked with collecting their entire media library for the season. Moco even opens up creative opportunities that would otherwise be impossible, such as compositing multiple athletes in one group shot, shooting them individually.
Thanks to the Brewers for having us out, as always thanks to @cinemechanics for supplying the right rig for the job, and the assistance of the hard-working @aleutiancalabay@mrmoco1
By using our Bolt robot and custom built special effects rigs, we’re able to make the impossible possible! This was a test to see if we could make a one shot commercial happen in 2 seconds.

When everything is synced and controlled by Flair, life is a bit easier. Here’s some BTS from an Arby’s commercial shot in Minneapolis where we were tasked with building a motion-controlled drizzle rig, allowing us to repeatably time and place the sauce drizzle on the Arby’s food item perfectly in sync with the camera move. Because it would be quite a food build and reset after each take, we needed to rule out trial and error and get it in the least amount of takes possible. After carefully crafting our move, dialing in the placement of the sauce and timing of the on/off of the stream with a stand in, we were able to achieve this shot in a single take, running one more for safety. Of course this was not only made possible by motion control, but also the eye for detail of every crew member on the job, making sure we fixed it in prep.

To all my friends in Minneapolis, WE’RE COMIN BACK! It was a difficult decision to part ways with our home in LA. Looking back, it’s easy to see that I fell in love with California. The lifelong friendships, the mountains, the camping, the skating, the snowboarding, the beaches, and all the incredible jobs I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of will be tough to walk away from, but Kirsty and I have decided to make the journey back to the homeland to be closer to our roots.
Starting in 2026, we’ll once again be Minnesota locals, so hit me up for your Moco and camera assistant needs! And to my LA friends, there’s still a good chance we’ll work or hang together in the future. It’s easy enough for me to fly back.
We’re looking forward to this new chapter of our lives and are excited to be back home!
This one was a lot of fun. Thanks to the detailed location notes of our Director, Mike Nellison, and DP, Mike Welckle, we were able to pre-program all of our moves in the shop and show up the next day on-site with minimal to no editing. This proved to be crucial with a company move and three sets all in a one day shoot, one being an exterior in 20°F. I’m very happy with how it turned out, and couldn’t have done it without the help of @aleutiancalabay and @jacobgoessteadi

VFX integration at its finest. I’m grateful to have had the chance to work on a couple of commercials for Sonos last December with the talented @kasiuha and @tuckerkanderson The job was a mix of blue screen and black void, which can typically be a major headache for post. Thankfully, the software I use (Flair) saves everyone's time on the back end with its ability to share the moves we create on set as FBX files, which allow post to immediately have 3D camera moves that match what we programmed. Thank you @samg.mov for being my wingman on this one.
Shot at @agpwest with the @mrmoco1 Bolt, rented by @lacinemarobotics , using an @arri Alexa35 and Signature primes.

Some BTS from a fun shoot for MediaCom with @luminarycreative@flynnwright84 and @cinemechanics
Seamless transitions, VFX integration, speed, and a reach that eliminates creative limitations are all reasons why the Bolt on Track was the tool for the job.
It allowed us to build camera moves that could not have otherwise been done. A few of our moves required us to run them in sections, due to props being in the camera’s path or the track being in the shot. Because we used Motion Control, it was a fairly simple process for post to piece everything together.

Was sitting on some rolls for a bit that I finally got processed. Here are some stills from our first day of work on the cabin. Second picture is the start of an outhouse. Priorities…
