Designed by @bold.workshop and @xycdesign , Wandering Stones House is conceived as a series of masses, carried and shifted by a metaphorical glacier. Arriving from elsewhere, these masses embed themselves in the landscape, adapting and weathering along with their surroundings to become intrinsic to their new environment.
Three architectural erratics navigate down the hillside, creating a sculptural composition of simple volumes whose relation to each other and the surrounding topography creates visual complexity within a restrained floorplan of 1800 SF. Each mass contains a main programmatic series: living room, dining, and kitchen connected around a central hearth with expansive west-facing windows; a private bedroom retreat; and a garage and workshop detached from the living areas. These are separated by secondary spaces - a protected entry patio and a small home office with a view to Ghost Lake.
Todd Saunders' Y House at Carraig Ridge is now available for sale.

There are a few spots left on our tour of Carraig a ridge this weekend. Kayla Browne, principal of @bold.workshop , will be joining us to discuss our collaboration on Wandering Stones House, which started construction in June (after a 4-month whirlwind design and permitting process in our shared office).
We’ll also check out Cut Out House, designed with Young Projects, and Y House by Todd Saunders, which finished last year.

Introducing the Wandering Stones House. Inspired by glacial erratics, three distinct volumes trace a path down the slopes of Carraig Ridge, embedding into the rolling landscape: a generous, open living area and guest bedroom; a main bedroom retreat, and a detached two-car garage. This 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom home has 1800sf of interior living space, with an additional 590 sf of garage space.
The southwest-facing slope of the site provides sweeping panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains and Ghost Lake, captured by expansive glazing in the living areas and curated windows in the bedrooms and other private areas. Outside, the shifting volumes create a variety of outdoor spaces to both enjoy the view and find shelter from chinook winds.
Wandering Stones House on Lot 9 will be listed for presale this fall, with more information to come.

The newly completed Y-House, designed by Todd Saunders, is named for its distinctive form in plan. The 'Y' opens up westward, revealing impressive views of the Rocky Mountains.
