I think there are burdens we simply cannot bear and I mean not to overwhelm or guilt anyone who didn’t know or doesn’t have time to follow this line of news. There is so much. And, I do feel it able to bear the little burden of sharing info, to at least plant the informational seeds that may one day convince more Americans to reject sending tax dollars to Israel. No plans beyond that for this little human over here. Good night sweet ones.
A string of thoughts. I’m no expert, just a human grappling with thoughts like a lot of you…
CORRECTIONSSSS: Matti Peled interviewed Gazans in 1956 (not 1950) after Israel attacked Egypt and occupied Gaza (Israel was occupying power, but newly so). “In conversations with the locals, I was amazed to learn that they were not seeking vengeance for the hardship we caused them, nor did they wish to get rid of us. They were realistic and pragmatic and wanted to be free.” -General Matti Peled, 1956
Came across this one from 2019. Certainly simpler times. One less nose piercing, pandemic hadn’t arrived, Mila was here, and I didn’t even know what Zionism was yet despite having been raised Jewish-ish in America. Didn’t know the rich history of Palestine, or even when Israel was established. I was so naive. My greatest concerns were Republicans, racism, police violence and what to do with my life. How things have shifted in less than 8 years, my goodness. Still not clear about what to do with my life, I guess that’s the constant. ❤️ Miss you Mila.
It has been a while, and I have a big update!
Today, I’m not looking for luxury or a comfortable life. All I want is a simple place where I can live with dignity. Rent has become an unbearable burden, so I’ve decided to start over.
To rebuild my destroyed home and furnish it with the simplest furniture to help me settle down and begin anew.
What you are helping me rebuild:
The house needs repairs after being hit by an airstrike. First, the rubble, cement, and large stones must be removed. Second, the windows must be sealed tightly and the doors replaced with wooden ones covered with plastic sheeting. A reinforced steel external elevator also needs to be installed. Interior furnishings include a mattress, bed, water tank, and kitchenette. The total cost is only $3,000, and the house will be ready for immediate occupancy.
💔 I need your help…while money goes directly to the costs to rebuild, it’s not the only meaningful way to support me: even words of encouragement, or sharing my story helps.
Any contribution—even a small one—is a step towards reclaiming something of my life. To find a roof over my head, and a place where I can stay after so much upheaval. Through times of suffering, there are always “the helpers.” Thank you for choosing to be one of the helpers of our lifetimes. LINK IN BIO 🙏
Thank you,
Samer
Feeling impatient, could have been more direct and more bold. I so often feel conflicted on my theory of change. In anycase, I don’t think I’m the one who can have patience for people who have seen what I’ve seen the past couple years and still feel like Israel is a good idea. I think Jews should keep unlearning. At whatever pace allows them to do so.
But I also believe the repercussions of committing or enabling genocide cannot go unaccounted for, as changes in circumstance will need to proceed changes of heart, simply because the value of a life is infinite, and we will NOT wait to protect Lebanese and Palestinian and Iranian civilians from Israeli terror attacks. May accountability/isolation/deterrance of Israel and the U.S. be sooner than later.
Feeling trepidatious. Really hoping that tonight’s Seder is articulately anti terrorist state of Israel, honest about the sickness of fear and racism that has swept the Jewish community, and honest about our duty as Jews to be not only outspoken, but to act. To oppose supremacy in all of its forms, including jewish supremacy and apartheid. And now, Israel has passed legislation to execute based on race. Jews will not be subject to this law. The military courts that convict have over 99% conviction rate, and are documented to use torture to coerce false admissions. Israeli leaders have even admitted their society is sick. Haaretz is publishing very sobering articles. We must be uncompromisingly honest. Because that is love for all. Zionism is destroying everyone. Never in my name. May all the land be free. Long live Palestine.
