A Garden Diary - May 18th
Here is an assortment of what I found in the garden today. I found some happy purple alliums, golden Alexander, more columbine, and some random snap dragons I found in the greenhouse. I don’t think I would’ve put any of these colors together on purpose, had I not been doing this project, but the combination makes me happy! Swipe to see the pull back!

A Garden Diary - May 16th
This is another straight out of the camera creation. Ok, I do crop, but other than that, nothing. ❤️
This sweet little arrangement was all of 6 inches tall. I love making tiny arrangements although they can be a test of patience. Jenga has nothing on these guys! 😂 I get the flowers in the tiny vase, shoot like crazy, and hope that I get a shot before something wilts out of the vase.
This arrangement included forget-me-nots, columbine, golden Alexander, and nepeta.
A Garden Diary -May 14th
I like nothing better than sticking my head into lilac bushes this time of year. Their fragrance is so memorable, and I even have a perfume that I can spritz on in the middle of winter so I can remember the scent. This series is a simple collection of images created straight out of camera. I shot this series at F 1.2 for the dreaminess. These images were processed in-camera with a simple color profile.
A Garden Diary - May 11th …and here we are back to moody! I was actually cleaning in the yard last night, and I noticed that my columbines had popped open. I ran and got my camera and little flash and quickly took the shot before continuing on with yardwork.
I have to admit that I am a study in extremes. I love F-16 or F-22, but I also love F1 .8.🌸 I jump back-and-forth between wanting all the bokeh and dreamy backgrounds to wanting to be in my studio with intense light and the inverse square law resulting in dark backgrounds. I love that I can have both!
A Garden Diary - Tulip Ruffles - April 21st
I’m back to bringing out my little flash into the garden. Not much is growing yet, but my naturalized tulips popped open today.
A Garden Diary - April 15th - An Unlikely Trio
It is not often that you see roses and daffodils blooming at the same time. I love that this would have been unlikely a hundred years ago. 🌸
See my previous post for the light I used. 💕
A Garden Diary - April 8th
I thought I had cut back all of my roses in the greenhouse, but I was surprised to see this beautiful pink blossom, a trio of iceberg roses, and a couple of random snapdragons that volunteered from last year. I have been out in the garden trimming back all of the dead growth to make room for the new growth.
I found a poor dead robin that I laid to rest in a cozy spot in the garden. Robins are my favorite birds of all time. I love talking to them as they hop around the garden. It is still quite chilly here and only the tops of the daffodils have poked through.
I almost have my husband convinced to build me a 50 foot trellis for growing vining flowers and my favorite kabocha squash. 😂
I was feeling whimsical yesterday and just bounced the strobe into the window. It’s always amazed me how this simple technique can mimic natural light from a window. Does this look more like window light?
