I’ve just spent a couple of days in Birmingham - a bittersweet experience as ALL of my old haunts are now closed, and many of the buildings have either been demolished or soon will be. The Jester shut its doors many years ago, but the building still stands. I used to go to The Jester, which had been a gay bar since the ‘70s, at least twice a week every week from 1984, until moving to London in ‘88, when I was 19. (The tower block in the reflection was called Dorothy Towers back then, as half the residents were gay.)
