What does the path from undergraduate learning to policy leadership look like?
As a Global and International Studies student in Carleton’s Faculty of Public and Global Affairs, Kiara built her foundation by engaging critically with equity, race, and global systems. Through her work with RISE and as an EDI Program Coordinator with the SEO, she’s already doing the kind of institutional and policy work many students don’t encounter until graduate school.
Programs like Global & International Studies, PAPM, Political Science, Sociology, and other socially engaged disciplines within FPGA offer a powerful pathway into SPPA master’s programs — where critical analysis becomes policy design, and lived experience meets institutional change.
Curious what your undergraduate degree could look like at the next level? Start exploring SPPA.

Representation in the federal public service is tracked through official Employment Equity reports, which compare employee demographics to workforce availability.
As of March 2024, over 70 % of core public service employees belong to one or more employment-equity group. Diversity has increased over recent years, and data on senior leadership helps inform recruitment and equity initiatives.

Anti racism policy frameworks in Canada provide structured, evidence based approaches to identifying and removing systemic barriers that affect racialized and Indigenous communities.
Canada’s first Anti Racism Strategy (2019-2022) invested in community action and better data. The newer strategy (2024-2028) builds on this foundation and prioritizes concrete actions across economic, social, justice, and health systems.
