Hi everyone! We are Diana De La Paz ‘26 (she/her) and Jared Arroyo Ruiz ‘26 (he/him) and we’ll be taking over the Carleton Instagram today! We are 2 of 10 students who participated in the spring break Borderlands trip, where we had the opportunity to meet with humanitarian organizations working on both sides of the Mexican-American border. Through these encounters, we learned about their various ongoing efforts to support those impacted by the violence and humanitarian crises occurring in the borderlands. Navigating this experience required significant emotional strength from all of us as we confronted the harsh realities of the migrant journey. However, that weight was balanced by the stories of the volunteers who not only provide aid but also advocate for those who have lost their lives along the journey, ensuring that their stories and the tragedy of the borderlands are not forgotten. As a group, we have decided to continue in their path by sharing our personal reflections, experiences, and the stories we witnessed in the borderlands. Our exhibition (Where the Snowbird Lives, the Migrant Dies) is composed of work by all ten of us, with each person choosing their own creative direction and medium. While our works may be striking, heartbreaking, or confusing, they invite us all to think deeply about the reality of life between two worlds, and the people who seek to cross between them. Follow us along today as we head into the official opening of our exhibition in the Weitz 226 & 229 at 5 pm followed by a dinner and panel at 6 pm.

It was wonderful to celebrate Carleton staff and faculty this week at our annual Employee Recognition Celebration! We recognized five-year milestones, honored retiring colleagues, and awarded the inaugural Carleton Impact Awards to four amazing members of our community (you may have already seen photos of the legendary Phoebe on @carletonyoungalumni !) Congratulations to everyone, and THANK YOU for your dedication, your creativity, and your expertise — every Carleton employee is a vital part of what makes the College such a special place to work and study 💛💙

Tonight, a full house of Carleton students, faculty, and staff gathered for a candid and insightful dialogue between President Alison Byerly and former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Part of our Engaging Across Viewpoints lecture series, this special event represents the kind of intellectual curiosity that our community is known for. Secretary @pete.buttigieg was generous with both his time and his comments, meeting with groups of students earlier in the evening and answering questions directly from members of our community during the event.
