Here’s a bit of my general approach to improvising! Playing along to a simple two chord song like “Fire on the Mountain” is a fun, and simple exercise to practice following the chords. This is where knowing different triads and chord inversions across the fretboard really help you express yourself.

We hadn’t played this tune together for a very long time but somewhere around 5 or maybe 900 takes we got a decent playthrough with only one minor hiccup.

Tried to keep it simple, yenno just start with the melody and don’t get too carried away. There’s some cool lines here along with some flubs. Filming your own playing is a great way to see what is working and what you need to work on. Still a lot of auto pilot BS i’m trying to get away from… the more intentional every note can be, the better usually; but there is that sweet spot where the music is playing you instead of you playing the music and that’s the place i’m always trying to reach.
