On 24 May, Asgar Dalvie and Muhammad Sanglay will attempt to run 42.2km in the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon dressed in a foam replica of and SPCA vehicle while chasing a Guinness World Records title and raising fuel money for SPCA animal rescues. Yes. Really. Every rand helps our Inspectors reach animals suffering from cruelty, neglect, injury and abuse across Cape Town. If you spot Bokkie on the route, cheer loudly. 👩‍⚖️Two men have been convicted after unlawfully feeding and exploiting Cape fur seals at Hout Bay Harbour to attract tourists for profit. What may look like a harmless holiday photo has already resulted in people being bitten by seals. It also places the public at increased risk during the ongoing rabies outbreak affecting Cape fur seals in the Western Cape. 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️The Cape of Good Hope SPCA, together with Law Enforcement and DFFE, conducted coordinated undercover operations that led to the arrests and successful prosecution of the offenders. 🚨 THIS is why sterilisation matters 🚨 The contents are graphic, but while many people can simply scroll past stories like these, our staff members cannot. They are the ones called out to these gruesome scenes - often the result of animals not being sterilised and unwanted litters being discarded in the most cruel way possible. They are the ones who witness the cruelty, the suffering and the heartbreak firsthand. Inspector Wandile Nteleza and Collections Officer Andisile Booi were called out to Eerste River after a box containing kittens was found dumped in the area. What they saw when they opened the box broke their hearts. These innocent, tiny kittens - still alive and crying out in severe pain - had been placed in boiling oil. The kittens were rushed for veterinary care, but their injuries were so severe that the kindest and most humane decision was to end their suffering. No animal should ever have to endure such cruelty. The experience left a deep emotional impact on Wandile and Andisile. The sight of those helpless kittens suffering and the sound of their tiny cries, remain etched in their memories. This is the heartbreaking reality behind unwanted litters. This is why the Cape of Good Hope SPCA places such strong emphasis on sterilisation. Because when animals are unwanted, abandoned or seen as a burden, they often suffer in the most horrific ways imaginable. Today, our first responders moved from flooded roads to informal settlements, from farms to townships, from emergency rescues to heartbreaking recoveries, responding wherever animals needed help most. We could only be there because you stood with us. ❤️ To every person who donated, dropped off supplies, or shared one of our posts, thank you. Truly. You are the reason there were boots in the mud and water today. What your generosity made possible: 🐾 Stray and vulnerable animals scavenging in flooded streets were rescued. 🐾 A dog stabbed in Grassy Park was reached and treated. 🐾 A frightened goat was helped safely across a busy roadway, with collection arranged with Law Enforcement. 🐾 A cat stranded high in a tree in Claremont was brought safely down. 🐾 Blankets and dog food were handed to struggling pet owners trying to keep their animals warm. 🐾 A goat in Fisantekraal with a catastrophic leg injury was given a dignified, humane end when nothing else could be done. Our inspectors were deployed across Macassar, Imizamo Yethu, Wesbank, Sir Lowry's Village, Fisantekraal, Rocklands, Khayelitsha, Strand, Ithemba Farms, Mfuleni, Lwandle, Bloekombos and beyond -wherever animals needed help most. Some stories ended in relief. Some ended in loss. But every single one mattered. Storm-related admissions are now expected to climb toward 100 animals, with many more assisted directly in the field by exhausted teams who have worked tirelessly through this storm. Behind every rescue photo is an animal that could not ask for help.. And behind every one of those animals is you. We are glad that we could be there, no matter how hard it was. Two little pigs arrived at the SPCA yesterday cold, soaked, and shivering after being rescued during Cape Town’s storm. 💔 The way they snuggled into a warm pile of shavings told us everything we needed to know about how long they had been that cold. In the middle of flooding, emergency rescues, and heartbreaking calls for help, this tiny moment felt enormous. Thank you for your support, thank you for enabling us to be there for animals!
