HG Restaurant Series
Next up, we head to @caperandcure in Bristol with head chef @chefmattygrove , where bold, seasonal cooking takes centre stage.
On the menu: Suffolk lamb with morels, Wye Valley asparagus, fondant potato, fresh peas & wild garlic.
We start with beautiful spring lamb where our butchers break down sirloin from the saddle. Then it’s over to the kitchen at Caper & Cure, where Matty brings the dish together, layering rich lamb jus with sweet peas, earthy morels and the brightness of seasonal asparagus and wild garlic.
A beautiful, seasonal plate that celebrates lamb at its best.

We’re very happy to be nominated for the Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants 2026.
We pride ourselves on the community we serve and the neighbourhood we sit in. Caper & Cure has always been about creating a restaurant that anyone can visit and feel welcome; with great quality food and wine, and relaxed, uncomplicated service.
There’s still plenty of time to vote us (16th April), so please click the link in the bio - it’s very much appreciated.

PICKY BITS WITH MATTY - 24/05
It’s that wonderful time, again, where I get to introduce this month’s hugely talented PB chef! We are pleased to be joined by the darling Matty of Caper & Cure fame! As Head Chef, he has been able to share his love for modern European cooking in that delightfully cool bistro tradition. Combining this, his love of South East Asian flavours and his time at Menu Gordon Jones promises a divine menu next week!
In his words, “I take a lot of influence from nostalgia from childhood in that sense, and it’s going to be my main influence for Picky Bits. I’ll combine the style of food I love cooking at Caper, with some of that nostalgic Asian cookery.” - erm, yum?!
After last month’s edition, we feel incredibly happy with our temporary home, Dongnae! With this being a bank holiday weekend we are expecting a fantastic turnout, so expect our usual buzzy and bustling style but with a little more space, hopefully both inside and out! The hugest of thanks again to Kyu and Duncan for sharing their wonderful space with us!
Details:
- Sunday 24th May
- 1pm onwards
- No reservations
- Bar service only
- Food & drink until they’re gone
- Absolutely everybody welcome!
Theo working his magic via cider braised Iberico pork collar, carlin peas, pickled chicory & crème fraîche. Spaces available for lunch and dinner today! Book online or give us a call x
CAPER & WANGS
Yesterday evening our very own @xin.xin.chan joined forces with Caper & Cure’s @chefmattygrove to combine European and Regional Chinese flavours with seasonal produce. A true neighbourhood collaboration right on our doorstep in Montpelier.
The sold out 7 course tasting menu was absolutely delicious and came together very naturally as Chef Xin Xin tapped into her European cheffing background and Matty tapped into his Malaysian Chinese heritage.
Huge thank you to the team at @caperandcure and to everyone that came through, including @gilescoram with his wine flight that landed perfectly - a very special collaboration! Same time next year?

Happy Easter! 🐣
The meal that helped me to fall back in love with French cooking❤️✨
In addition to my recent collab with @eatclubuk , I knew I also had to do a dedicated post to this sensational meal at @caperandcure .
After several disappointing meals at French-speciality restaurants, I had started to feel a reluctance for the cuisine as a whole. Nobody wants to splash out for a pricey meal only to come away underwhelmed by mediocre food.
However, Caper and Cure has shown me how beautiful cooking should be. Simple, yet insanely delicious. Just quality ingredients and expert techniques.
We had such a gorgeous evening visiting their restaurant. From the friendly and attentive service, to the lowkey but stylish decor, to the fabulous food.
We were blown away by the crab starter. In a rich, buttery and dill-heavy sauce we were mopping up every last drop with their thick, fresh slices of bread.
Next, a monkfish so tender it had the texture of a perfectly cooked prawn, topped with tiny juicy shrimps and soaked in a lightly spicy jus. The steak was also delicious and drizzled with a rich, savoury sauce paired with golden, crispy frites.
For desserts, we ordered the strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake and the coffee creme caramel. The cheesecake was quite dense and is perhaps the only thing I wouldn’t order again, but that’s only because it paled in comparison to the explosion of flavour the creme caramel punched. Silky smooth and with a rich, decadent chocolate biscotti, this was the perfect creamy dessert to finish on.
I’m so glad we came here. It has reignited my passion for well-done, French cooking and is somewhere I would recommend to anybody looking for a very special meal.😊🫶

It’s starting to feel ever so slightly like spring isn’t it? We’ve been getting teased with some great sun in here of late and we’ve also been treated to some amazing blood oranges that are just coming into peak season. Mirai’s been putting them to great use via this blood orange and almond cake. Really good cake. Really good desserts on offer as always from Mirai. Roll on the sunshine. That’s all. Good evening x
Our kitchen has just finalised the next tasting menu for the 2nd of April - And what a menu! We are very excited for this one. One or two spaces remain available! Please reach out to Indya here: [email protected] to book in :-)
New work for @caperandcure & @carmenstreet.wine 📸🍷
Caper & Cure has been one of my favourite restaurants in Bristol for many years now. Every visit has been a special occasion, even if it wasn’t meant to be. It’s perfect hospitality - really delicious produce cooked with care, warm service, an unpretentious vibe, but everything is super high quality.
I felt so grateful to be asked to shoot some new imagery for them at the end of last year to mark the expansion of Carmen Street Wine. A day of documenting both teams just going about their work. It reminded me how much I love shooting good restaurants and why I fell in love with food photography in the first place.
Thanks to @gilescoram@chefmattygrove@hollyandthevine@shelbman for having me along for such a lovely shoot 🙏
