🐖 Throwback to Fizziwig the Pig at Christ Church Primary School.
Pupils became pig experts, uncovered the mystery of the missing Fizziwig and explored what our relationship with nature really means.
“During the Fizziwig the Pig project I saw a change in my student's confidence. They were willing to have different opinions and did lots of creative thinking. They thought deeply about their answers and many were able to place themselves as other characters and share from that viewpoint. There was lots of good thinking and working out what was best and what was right.” Teacher, Christ Church Primary School
We’ve loved bringing Fizziwig into schools again recently - including sessions at @hotspurprimaryschool last week.

We're looking for a teacher to join the Cap-a-Pie Board of Trustees.
Help us make sure children across the region get high quality creative experiences and hear from one of our current teacher-trustees about what it's really like.
“Cap‑a‑Pie is very supportive of their trustees, and we all work together with the shared aim of ensuring that children in our region experience high‑quality drama workshops. I would recommend joining such a friendly and supportive team. One of my concerns was being able to balance being a trustee with working full-time as a teacher. I needn’t have worried, as the responsibilities of being a trustee do not add to my workload.”
Jack Gardner, Teacher at Hotspur Primary School and Cap-a-Pie Trustee

New blog post: Last month we launched our new project Childhood at Chillingham Road Primary School.
Pupils explored big questions about growing up today through theatre and creative activities - and even met a time-travelling Victorian child.
We can’t wait to continue the project with more schools this year.
Find out more about this project in our latest blog on our website.

We’re really pleased to have been named Runner Up in the Chris Drinkwater Creative Health in Primary Schools Awards, which recognise collaborations between schools and the arts to support children’s wellbeing. 🎉
Brad was there to collect the award last week - a lovely moment to celebrate our work with Chillingham Road Primary School and the impact of that partnership.

One of the biggest impacts teachers see is confidence.
Drama techniques like role-play and freeze-frames help pupils speak up, share ideas and take creative risks.
One teacher told us, “Confidence was a big focus for the children.”
During our projects many pupils who rarely spoke in class were able to perform or present their thinking.

“It is heartening that such a great, inventive and unassuming company endures, its work and ambition, impact and reach never more essential.” Laura Lindow, writer and director
Over the years we’ve worked with artists, scientists, teachers and communities to explore big ideas through theatre.

Cap-a-Pie is 30! 🎂
This week we’re celebrating 30 years of making theatre with children and communities across the North East.
Today we’re launching our 30-year impact report, sharing some of the stories, partnerships and projects that have shaped the organisation.
We’re also in school this week launching our new project Childhood, working with pupils at Chillingham Road Primary School to explore big questions about growing up today.

We’re bringing our Brain Health project into Chillingham Road Primary School over the coming weeks, working with pupils to explore how we can look after our brains, now and in the future. 🧠
Developed with Professor Andrew Newman from @newcastleuni the project uses theatre to help young people understand brain health, dementia prevention and the importance of healthy habits.
📖 You can read Professor Newman’s reflections on the project, brain health and why early learning matters on our website.
With thanks to @paulhamlynfoundation for making this project possible.
We’re heading back into school this week with Operation Walker - our bespoke theatre project inspired by Goodnight Mister Tom.
We’ll be working with students at Christ Church CE Primary School exploring themes of friendship, safety and identity – all through drama. Led by our Artistic Director Brad, in-role as Sgt. Ryan O’Kane (yes, full camo)!
Read more about how Operation Walker was shaped with teachers and students, and why this kind of tailored creative learning matters. Head over to our Blogs page on our website to find out more.
Thanks to the @paulhamlynfoundation for supporting this work.
