SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Alyssa Jones (she/her). Originally from Farmingdale, New Jersey. Favorite Role: Ismene in Antigone! Being part of an independent project with a cast and creative team solely featuring my peers was so beyond rewarding. I was able to see what we’re truly capable of after four years of training! This role and the language that came with it was definitely outside of my comfort zone, but I’m so grateful I was able to tackle it! Thank you Director Post! Favorite CAP21 Memory: Class Potlucks! Of course I loved all the time spent inside the red walls of CAP21, but it’s extra fulfilling when those relationships continue outside of them. The bond I’ve formed with my classmates is like no other. Watching them grow as people both artistically and as humans is a special privilege. Getting together over a meal we’ve all contributed to just talk and laugh brings me so much joy. Not to mention we throw a great party!! :) What does being an Artist mean to you?: Being an artist means choosing to feel in a society that rewards numbness. We take invisible stories and emotions and turn them into something tangible and relatable. We give them shape so audiences can recognize themselves somewhere inside. Art asks us to pay attention to the ugly and the beauty. For a few hours, strangers laugh together, grieve together, hope together. That kind of connection feels sacred. And we as artist set that in motion. Bringing pieces of myself into someone else’s experience is a unique privilege, one I don’t take for granted. #cap21 #cap21bfa #seniorspotlight

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Ava Kate Rankin (she/her). Originally from Edmond, Oklahoma. Favorite Role: My favorite role was Gabrielle in Cinderella. I loved getting to be silly in a pink ballgown with my best friends. :) Favorite CAP21 Memory: My favorite memory is when we performed at Carnegie Hall. It was really cool to perform with performers that I have always looked up to. What does being an Artist mean to you?: Being an artist means making connections on and off stage by bringing aspects of myself to the story. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Emma Majewski (she/her). Originally from Swanton, Ohio. Favorite Role: My favorite role would have to be Julia Sullivan in The Wedding Singer! She was such a lovable and playful girl that I truthfully never imagined I would play. The process for this show pushed me and challenged me in so many ways, but the payoff was SO beyond worth it in the end. I am also so glad we got to have this show as our final project as a class because it was the most fun ever and I could not have picked a better show to end with! It really was a dream <3 Favorite CAP21 Memory: It is basically impossible to pick one but something that really jumps out to me was the first time we realized that we were seniors! We had just finished our last demos of junior year and it was just a moment of realization that we were like... officially seniors! It really launched us into our last year which then became the best memories of all! What does being an Artist mean to you?: Being an artist means so much to me. It is the fact that I have the ability to share my art and creativity with others who appreciate it on the same level that I do. It is something that brings me so much joy to participate in and I love being able to make people feel something or to feel changed from a performance. Existing in a creative space where everyone is loving and supporting the art form is just a feeling unlike any other. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Nico Gonzales (he/him). Originally from San Antonio, Texas. Favorite Role: My favorite and most transformative role has to be Glen Guglia in The Wedding Singer! That one was super outside of my comfort zone and I feel like that was the experience where I truly found my process as an actor. It was a challenge but a good one and it informed me on my range and how far I can really go! Glen is also such a nasty dude and getting to play into that was fun. Aside from that I loved working on Usnavi from In the Heights in MSS class, I got to do that with my dear friends AJ and Joaquin which made my heart happy :) Favorite CAP21 Memory: I would say the in-between moments outside the walls of CAP! I think Ivory said this in his spotlight (shoutout to the homie), I will always cherish the nights at people’s apartments, the nights exploring the city, seeing shows with people or just experiencing life together as young artists in this city. I’ll never forget those memories. Or anytime I got to create art with these humans- every second was worth it. What does being an Artist mean to you?: Being an artist to me means being a storyteller. Telling stories that haven’t been told yet, and if they have, telling them in a way that feels true! Cuz there’s nothing like your own truth. It means being a vessel for the vision and representing something, someone, or a thing that’s bigger than yourself. It means connecting with other like minded individuals who are beautiful vessels themselves; as artists we share that lovely landscape. Shoutout to my class and those who believed in me- wouldn’t be writing this if it wasn’t for y’all. And the biggest shoutout to my family back in San Antonio (Puro 210!) - there is no me without y’all. #cap21 #cap21bfa #seniorspotlight

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Miranda Slater (any/all). Originally from Bellingham, Washington. Favorite Role: My favorite role here was Mrs. Mayor in Seussical!! It was such an enjoyable process with a stellar cast, and I felt like I put a lot of depth and love into my performance of this silly character! Favorite CAP21 Memory: I’m a sucker for bittersweet, and I think the night after what would’ve been our Wedding Singer closing has to be my favorite. Just being able to cry and laugh and hug each other as a class after four years together was such a beautiful moment. What does being an Artist mean to you?: I’ve always said this: everything is like theatre and theatre is like nothing else. You can find performance in every aspect of the world, but there is nothing akin to actually putting it all out there. That, and the level of connection. You cannot do this alone! It has brought me my best friends, my happiest moments, and my truest passion. I owe my life to creating art that inspires, changes, or simply brings a little joy. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Maizy Post (she/her). Originally from Colorado. Favorite Role: Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical! It is one of my favorite musicals ever and dream shows to perform in, and I was so excited to get to do it along side of my classmates. The entire rehearsal and performance process was so full of play and exploration and I had so much fun and am so proud of the work we did. Favorite CAP21 Memory: Our Composer Project. The process was so much fun, and we all put in so much hard work. It was so rewarding to get to share something that we all felt so proud of with an audience, and it felt like the first time we all came together as an ensemble to lift each other and support one another. What does being an Artist mean to you?: Being an artist is the gift of always getting to be curious, play and explore. Theatre is a space in which we never have to take things for face value and have the opportunity to explore past the limits and push the boundaries of what the world can be. I am so grateful I get to pursue a career in the arts! After Graduation, Maizy is looking forward to pursuing opportunities in directing. She is excited to get to make her professional directing debut at the Madison Theatre this Summer with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, running July 10th-August 2nd. #cap21 #cap21bfa #seniorspotlight

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Liam Mitro-Specht (he/him). Originally from Brooklyn, New York. Favorite Role: My favorite role I’ve gotten to play was Robbie Hart in The Wedding Singer this past spring. It tested every part of me as a performer, comedically and vocally. But, I think freshman year Liam would be proud to know he was capable of leading a huge show, playing such a fun and fearless character. Also learning the guitar was pretty cool too :) Favorite CAP21 Memory: My favorite memory was my class seeing each other perform in the fall Mainstages. Seeing all of my friends step into themselves and shine on the stage was such a fulfilling and emotional experience. It was proof that we really can do the damn thing! What does being an Artist mean to you?: Music and theatre has been such an important part of my life for as long as I remember, and truly has made me see the world in so many different ways. As a performer, I can only hope to be able to have half that impact on someone else watching in an audience or someone I share the stage with. The community is what makes it all worth it. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Kara Moy (she/her). Originally from Austin, Texas. Favorite Role: Holly in The Wedding Singer!! Holly was such a fun role to play that pushed me in acting, vocals, and dance. She is so spunky but also has a sensual side that comes out often. And The Wedding Singer as a whole is just such an amazing show. Favorite CAP21 Memory: I really enjoyed getting to perform in the Composer Project directed by Helen Farmer. The process was so igniting for my craft and the show was so cohesive and beautiful. My song was both funny and heartbreaking. I also got to choreograph a couple of numbers in the show. Helen created such an impactful show that I would perform eight times a week if I could. What does being an Artist mean to you?: I want to be able to move people. I want to make them feel something and be changed. I want them to think differently about the world after each and every performance I give. My artistry gives me a way to feel things that I can’t get anywhere else. To learn more about Kara, visit her website via the link in our bio. #cap21 #cap21bfa #seniorspotlight

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 💫🎭🎓 Today we celebrate Joaquin Pope (he/him). Originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Favorite Role: My favorite role has to be playing The Grinch in Seussical at CAP21! I feel most connected to my craft when I get to inhabit characters who live in a heightened world, and Mr. Grinch definitely allowed me to step into a wacky side of myself. Favorite CAP21 Memory: It’s impossible to choose just one. However, one memory that keeps coming up was opening night of The Wedding Singer. I’ll never forget the rush of energy as the curtain opened and we all came to life as a collective sharing the stage. What does being an Artist mean to you?: I believe the performing arts are essential for the growth of our spirits and minds. Being an artist is important to me because I remember how inspired I felt as a child seeing live theater and I hope to pass that inspiration on to others. To learn more about Joaquin, visit his website via the link in our bio. #cap21 #cap21bfa #seniorspotlight
