Algorithmic futures 🌾🤖 In ‘Phantom Sugar’ (2023), Cao Shu explores humanity’s deep desire to control the future, set in the historic Shunde sugar factory in Guangdong, China. Through shot footage and game engine rendering, the work takes viewers on a journey through the factory’s layered history from a drone’s perspective. Merging ancient practices with cutting-edge technologies like swarm algorithms and vertical farming, Phantom Sugar reflects on the symbolic role of sugar and humanity’s need to navigate the unknown. @how_art_museum #CaoShu: Afterglow and Theremin, How Art Museum, 2024.11.04-2025.02.16. Artist Cao Shu‘s new solo exhibition Afterglow and Therem is based on historical events, individual memories, and literary fictions. He delved into the complex intertwined relationships between memory, computer graphics technology, and digital society; Constructed a virtual illusion that transcends reality. Fragmented historical memories generate echoes, oscillating in different time and space, far or near, like unpredictable occasional melodies played on a theremin; It is also like the long afterglow left by the Big Bang, affecting a moment Simultaneously belong to the future and the past through multiple forces.

Spark: From Pole to Pole This exhibition takes the physical phenomenon of ”spark“ as its point of departure. Through the integration of art and technology, it explores the interplay, energy conversion, and systemic transformation between poles—such as positive and negative charges, positive and negative energy, and positive and negative boundaries—extending from physical phenomena to reflections on the technological era, media art, and even the trajectory of human civilization. Curated by Sun Dongdong and Tao Hanchen, the exhibition brings together 27 contemporary artists. Through a range of media including video, installation, and interactive experiences, it presents five core features of the essence of ”spark“: phase difference, energy accumulation, threshold boundary, creativity and destructiveness, and systemic change. 2026.0404-2026.0628 A4 Art Museum @a4artmuseum_official Curator Sun Dongdong @sundongdong55 Tao Hanchen @scv_t
