I said goodbye to my beautiful girl Trip yesterday. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I was only 21 years old when we found each other. For 13 years she was my best friend. For 13 years she was my one constant in my ever changing life. I always mention how I see us as tortoises carrying our home on our back. Well, I feel like a considerable chunk of my shell is broken now. She was more home to me than any country, any city, any house, even any family member could ever be. First time in my life I feel so strikingly homeless. For 13 years she gave me her unconditional love. For 13 years she cuddled me in my bed every night. Now my bed is cold, my home is empty and my heart heavy with grief made of steel.
Tribuş, you were my best friend. You taught me so much about love. It might seem like I saved you by picking you off the street that september morning but the truth is it was you who saved me. I hope I was able to give back to you half of the love you gave me for those 13 long years. Those 13 short years.
I loved you with an intensity I didn’t even know I was capable of until I met you. I will miss you so much. Your loss closes an era in my life. It is one of those tremors of life that closes the curtains and opens them up to a new scene. Rest well now my little girl. I love you 🤍
Playing Breminale was really a matter of the heart. I've seen many years ago my first concert at Breminale as a clueless teen and got hooked on music ever since. I’m sure i’ll be thinking about this evening for some time. Thank you all for showing up, it was one of the loveliest crowds I ever had in Berlin ❤️
The arduous wait is finally over. Today, exactly one month after my 7th anniversary in Berlin, I have officially become a German citizen. Albeit having a rather privileged life growing up considering my country of origin, it is nonetheless a big reassurance to have this tiny little passport that carries a big weight in our society.
Am I truly home in Germany? I don’t know. Maybe once you leave home, you never find it again. And maybe that’s okay. Home is where I love and where I am loved. Thus, in that sense, I carry it behind me like a tortoise. This is not an end but just another new beginning.
I also want to thank to dear Zoë for accompanying me today (and for a good chunk of this journey). I feel so lucky to have met her, as she’s always been—and still is—a big inspiration to me.
And finally, best of luck to all my comrades who were not blessed with a “worthy” piece of paper at birth—for it is a roll of the dice. Power be with you. ✊
