"Molotov" and "Natura morta/Variazione sul tema" by Yasmine Elgamal
Most of the scenes that appear in Yasmine Elgamal’s paintings take place in her home or in spaces she has inhabited. The walls, the vases, the flowers—everything depicted originates from her own life. Often, she poses for herself in front of a window she has gazed at all day, or a door she has found poetic, holding a vase, a flower, a swallowed rage, or a whisper of serenity. Inspiration emerges in this way from any light, any corner, any person she knows.
For her, painting is a deeply personal matter, where she strives to remain genuine both in the choice of subjects and in the underlying concept. Sometimes working from life, sometimes from photographic references she creates herself, she approaches her paintings primarily through direct painting (alla prima), using a limited palette of six colors.
