This was honestly a really humbling moment for me. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to work in film and dreamed of going to film school after high school. Instead, I ended up going down the medical route—but my passion for filmmaking never went away. After college, I decided to chase that dream and taught myself how to use cameras, sound gear, and lighting—using construction lights at first because I didn’t know any better.
Fifteen years later, I never would’ve imagined working on the kinds of projects I do now as a gaffer or electric. None of it would’ve been possible without all the filmmakers I’ve met along the way who guided me and were patient with me as I learned. I always keep that in mind and try to give back whenever I can—especially by helping and teaching aspiring filmmakers what I’ve picked up over the years.
