If you're a new family, or will be sending a new camper this summer, we strongly encourage you to set up or edit your household information in Camp Brain now to save time and frustration December 3.
The link to do that is in our linktree and on our homepage.
Today the Snake Pit (formerly H11, H13, & also H5) and the Fox Den (H5, formerly H4) made way for new cabins for the 2026 summer season... and it was epic. Planned change is always good.
To the best of our knowledge, the Snake Pit dated to around 1923 when Mr E. Hall Downs moved his camp here from Silver Lake, and it was possibly floated over with the old Rec Hall (which no outside historical records can support or dispute ever happened.) The Fox Den was built early in Col. Ralph Sasse's Camp Arrowhead era - possibly as early as 1946.
As bunks and counselor cubbies were built into all of our Homestead cabins, the Snake Pit was too small and ultimately deemed unfit for camper quarters in 2019. It had been serving as a storage building.
Among other structural concerns, several rafter beams had begun to split in the Fox Den. They both served us well and now it's time to serve our campers with larger and safer facilities.
