The Adventures of Lily The Freak Chapter 1 Hi there! I know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted here. Truth is, I’ve been really busy with my art and I couldn’t find the time to be both active on Twitter and Instagram. As you may know, I’ve joined the web 3 / NFT / Solana space. It has been a major turn for my career. I’ve finally found what I wanted to do and how to do it. I’ve been focusing heavily on storytelling and creating immersive experiences - everything I wished for from the beginning! At the moment I’m creating a collection entitled The Adventures of Lily The Freak. It follows Lily’s journey inside her imagination. Feeling like a misfit in her reality, she escapes into fantastic worlds. On her adventures, she will cross paths with peculiar characters and magical creatures. Her story is divided into nine chapters. Here are the artworks I created for chapter 1. This collection is animation based so photo manipulations are the first step of my process! I’ll be sharing the video I made as well. Plus I make my own music too now which is unbelievable to me! This space gives me hope to fulfil one of my biggest dreams: be a full-time artist and it makes me so happy. Because I’m creating a story, it is very time consuming. 23:58 Inspired by Poly by Daphni 12 March 2022. The credits roll. It’s Saturday night and I just finished The Worst Person In The World. As usual, I grab my phone and I instantly check the soundtrack. Throughout the movie, one thing kept bugging me. One of the songs sounded familiar but I just couldn’t figure out why. Scrolling through the playlist, a cover caught my attention and it clicked. I know it. I got up to go to the bathroom downstairs and I started playing Poly by Daphni. 23:58. As I arrive in the living room, something weird begins to happen. I look around at the furniture and cubes start appearing. The light shifts. The room looks different. The doors of my imagination are opening. A different world is building itself in front of me. – Hi everyone! I hope you’re doing well today! I am so sorry I have been quiet here but the truth is, I had a hard time handling everything over the past two weeks. I have joined the NFT community on Twitter and on the personal side, many things came up. I was working too much and I needed to look after myself first so I wouldn’t burn out. However, today I am back with part 1 of a collection entitled ‘00:00’. I have been interested in evolving artworks and storytelling lately and I wanted to continue my exploration with this one. Plus I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and experiment with concepts and lighting. Something futuristic this time, which is not what I usually make! There will be three artworks and one animation at the end. I can’t wait to share the rest but for now back to work! Ethereal [Animation] Inspired by Kaleidoscope by Nils Frahm Hi there! Hope you’re doing well today. Here it is finally ! I wasn’t very active here to work on this animation properly but this took me forever. Between the learning, the render errors, the time between renders… It drove me crazy in the end but I am glad it’s finally done! It’s not exactly how I envisioned it and I didn’t get to fix everything but I definitely improved my skills this time and I can’t wait to get started on another animation with the new techniques I learnt! Hi there! I hope you're doing well today. If you have seen my stories in the past couple days, you know I have been animating Ethereal. I did mention posting it today but I am not quite done yet. Many of you have asked me how I animate artworks and make some tutorials. I unfortunately don’t have the time to and I am no expert, I have still so much to learn. In the meantime, I thought I would share tutorials I followed, some with scripts I use all the time to help you get started! I have created a YouTube playlist where I will keep adding tutorials as I go along - the link is in the bio. AE can appear intimidating and difficult at the start but slowly it will become easier as you practice. Now let me talk about some YouTube channels I mentioned in those slides! • School of Motion I cannot recommend their channel enough when it comes to motion design and AE. There’s everything from basics to more advanced techniques. • ProductionCrate Their scripts will help you improve your productivity and text your animation to the next level. Make sure to check out their library on their website with free VFX & scripts for you to play around! • Anthony Possobon Now, this guy is gold. I wouldn’t have been able to animate today without him. First off, he worked for Riot, that says a lot already but he developed free scripts to help other artists which literally change your animation game. Plus his tutorials are really helpful. Be aware they are advanced so get to know your basics first before you check him out! • Jake in Motion This guy has almost the whole AE effects library explained and it’s definitely helpful when you want to replicate a specific look. Just search his channel with any effect and I am pretty sure you’ll find a tutorial for it ! I really hope this helps you get started. Ethereal Inspired by Kaleidoscope by Nils Frahm Hi there! I am back today with a new artwork. I wasn’t sure about posting in the light of the recent events. My thoughts are with anyone affected by wars. It’s such a strange time. However, I was still working in the background and to be honest with you, it helped with my mental health. So I thought I would start sharing art again, hopefully to change your mind too, even if it is for one minute. Last week Valentin aka @mr_23_design announced his contest #mr23jellyfish in collaboration with @xencelabs_emea and I thought I would give it a go. If you’d like to participate please check his post, there’s a tablet to win and it’s a great way to get some gear if you’re into Photoshop! The prompt was to use a jellyfish stock he provided and I wanted to play around with those but in a subtle way. I used it mainly for the lights on the owl and woman’s face & hair. That’s when the idea for Ethereal came. Since I started making art inspired by music, Kaleidoscope was always at the back of my mind. I always thought it was a great song and there was definitely material to make something trippy and cool. And here is the result of my experiment! I can’t wait to get started on the animation to tie it all together. I hope you’ll enjoy it! We Stand With Ukraine. 💙💛 Like my mom says, every little thing counts. It breaks my heart to see what’s happening in Ukraine and not being able to do much. No song for today, I just couldn’t go on creating as if nothing is happening. I saw in @lesfleursdelanuit ‘s story yesterday that sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine. Then I remember this video I saw of a little girl in an underground car park, hiding. She said she didn’t want to die. I keep hearing her words in my mind and I can’t help but tear up. This is absolutely terrible. I am thinking of all the people affected by this. Rêveuse Inspired by The Only Thing by @sufjan Hi there! What a strange and sad day it is. I can't help but think about the people in Ukraine and what they're facing right now. Everyone's anxious and what I do best in those moments, is play music, close my eyes for a second and escape in my imagination. This was the main inspiration behind this week's artwork 'Rêveuse' which means Dreamer in French (used for a woman). As I explained in the artwork caption, I use my imagination as a coping mechanism when reality gets tough and I hope you get to travel within yours too. So here is the layer breakdown and I tried something different this time - I am always searching for new ways to improve my videos and my After Effects skills. You also get to see my main door which was the inspiration for the castle ! I hope that for the span of one minute it brought you comfort during this dreary day. Rêveuse Inspired by The Only Thing by @sufjan Hi there! How are you today? Here is this week’s artwork, inspired by one of my favourite artists, Sufjan Stevens. I have a special connection with this song. Lately, it hasn’t been easy. I am faced with tough choices and I feel lost. You may know by now this is a side hustle for me and I work long hours to bring those worlds to reality. I absolutely love it but keeping that intense rhythm is sometimes exhausting. Many nights when I felt down, I played that song to ease my anxiety. I relate to what he’s singing and somehow, it sounds like a friend looking after me. I would look up the ceiling and imagine those mystical creatures he mentions in the song. As if I was outside and I could see the stars, when really, I was in my bed under the covers. If there was a way to represent what happens in my mind whenever I listen to music, then this is it. My imagination is a coping mechanism to deal with reality. And whenever I am not okay, I go up there and let the magic happen. As for the edit itself, I tried something different with the lights this time. I never seem to settle for specific techniques, I always experiment and have fun along the way! Fun fact for the castle, the pattern came from my entrance door window - creativity is everywhere! I’d love to share the process on YouTube but unfortunately, part of the recordings failed for some reason so I am not sure what I’ll do at the moment. Disillusion Inspired by I’m Not In Love by 10cc covered by Kelsey Lu Hi everyone! Happy Valentine’s Day - I guess. To be completely honest with you, I don’t like this “celebration”. Yet here I am posting an artwork today, which is surprising to me. Two weeks ago on the plane, I had this idea while listening to this song, looking out of the window. The sky does have magical powers to give you inspiration. Then I remembered Valentine’s day was around the corner so perfect timing - I guess? For me, there shouldn’t be a day to show someone you love them. And all the big teddy bears and heart cushions? Seriously who buys them? (If you do, I’d love to hear why). But here is the catch, as much as I’d like to ‘experience’ this love everyone is talking about, I didn’t get a chance to yet. I did date, I tried but got deceived every time. I have never felt those 'butterflies'. I often feel like Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 500 Days of Summer. The Smiths, many other bands, and too many movies put wrong ideas in my head. Up to a point that I became a hopeless romantic, wishing things that seems not to exist. To me this version of I’m Not In Love by Kelsey Lu perfectly represent this disillusion. It’s all dreamy and romantic, but in a way, it’s not. Hence the story I tried to portray today. A woman in some weird scientific building where they are trying to grow roses. But none seems to last. To everyone who is single or simply doesn’t celebrate, here is to us being lonely today. For the rest, I am sorry, I hope I didn’t ruin it and you still got to enjoy what I made!
