Blind them with science, not your lights! ☀️☀️ I recently drove my 4 runner at night for the first time after installing my new Alpharex Luxx G2 headlights and I couldn’t see a thing. And I’m pretty sure oncoming cars couldn’t either. My light beams were way too high and I was getting no light on the ground. So I went home right away, checked out the @runnin4tacos install video, and contacted @alpharexusa to ask some questions. Here’s what I found out. According to the @runnin4tacos YouTube install video for these lights, you should take a measurement from the ground to the center of your headlights. Mine was 44.5 inches. Subtract 2 inches to get 42.5, and that’s the height in step 1 of my reel (The desired height of your beam cutoff at 25 ft from a wall). When I messaged with @alpharexusa , they suggested the cutoff should be at 40-41 inches. I decided to start with 41.5. (Between the R4T-based reco of 42.5 and the Alpharex reco of 41-42). * In step 2, I measured 12.5 ft from the garage door. Why did I use 12.5 ft? That’s what I have available in my driveway and I wanted to be able to come back to that location for testing. It’s also half of the 25 ft recommendation. So, if I want my cutoff to be at 41.5 inches, and my headlight center is 44.5, math suggests that at half the distance, my beam cutoff on the garage door should be half the difference of 3 inches (44.5 - 41.5 = 3 inches divided by 2 = 1.5 inches), which puts it at 43 inches (44.5 - 1.5 = 43). Make sense? I think it’s harder to explain than it is to understand. Ha. Once I had my beam cutoff level at the tape line, Steps 3 and 4, I made sure both beams were level (step 5). I then went and tested it (Step 6). During the test it was much brighter than it was prior! I think it still needs some adjustment, but now I have a process I can control in my own driveway to try different adjustments. The small things are huge! More ⤵️ Drawers are one of the most consequential additions I’ve made to my 4runner since this build started almost 5 years ago. They help me organize all the small things I need for camping and overland trips that would normally be flying around my rig, or in bags or boxes. That’s why I’m going to devote a series to going through what I keep in my drawers and how they’re organized. The moderately small things shown here go in pouches that are clearly labeled, and easy to access. The FrontRunner drawers I have feel a bit like filing cabinets (for better or worse) so it felt natural to create a filing system with these pouches I found on Amazon (Link in bio). I’d love to have some custom pouches that maximize space but not ready to drop that coin. These are a touch to short, TBH, but they work pretty well for an off-the-shelf solution. #4runner #organization #5thgen4runner #offroad #overland #outdoors. #camping

PNW Wildflower alert🌻😍🏔️ Details below… a couple weeks ago we drove up to the gorge and hit some of the best wildflower hikes at peak bloom. This is a mix of iPhone pics from Mamaloose Hills and Tom McCall Point trail. Both were similar flowers, but different perspectives on Mt Hood and Adams. If you’re in the area, and have some time, I think the flowers wil still be blooming for awhile. We stayed at the Lightroom hotel for two nights and during the week it was around $100 a night. The taco truck in Mosier, Solstice Pizza, Kickstand (for breakfast) in Hood River were the culinary highlights. Pfriem brewery is always a great stop for 🍺. What a great weekend getaway three hours from Bend 🙌🏼 Check out nwwildflowers.com/map for a literal map of what’s blooming.

Sand blows. Sandstakes don’t. 😘💨 Sandstakes from Rollercam keep your awnings, tarps and tents in place in sandy spots and windy conditions where standard stakes fail. Each metal Sandstake has a reinforced twisted strike plate and guy wire with a 90° locking mechanism and protective coating. Their patented deep anchor tension system (DATS) provides up to 14x more holding capacity than standard sand stakes. Whether you’re securing camp at the dunes, anchoring emergency equipment on remote beaches, or setting up in loose desert terrain, these stakes deliver the holding power you need when you need it the most. How to use them: 1. Connect: Attach guy wire through stake opening 2. Position: Insert stake at 45-degree angle away from load 3. Secure: Connect to load using Roperollers. 4. Set: Drive stake deep into sand until only top portion remains visible 5. Test: Apply gradual tension to ensure proper set before full loading 🏷️ @rollercambuckle offroad overland outdoors 5thgen4runner 4runner rollercam sandstakes sand stakes roperollers camping tiedowns

Need a drink? 💦💦💦 2 year update… Exactly 2 years ago I bought this water pump, and it’s still going strong. And it’s still under $15 🤯 Your Scepter jerry can becomes a water faucet with this pump from Amazon (link in bio to my Amazon store) and this $25 adaptor I found on eBay. Search for “Overland water container pump adapter kit for Scepter brand”. It’s literally as easy as it is in the reel. Note: I actually store my drinking water in separate containers that I keep in the vehicle. I mostly use this water for dishwashing and hands/face washing. Sure, Scepter says this can is bpa free, but with the sun blasting down on it day in and out, I just don’t completely trust it. If I’m in a pinch, I’ll drink it. But I prefer fresh bottled water I buy as I go on my trips. Usually in gallon jugs, and I keep one in my fridge so I always have cool water to drink. #offroad #overland #outdoors #camping #adventure 4runner 5thgen4runner waterfaucet

Still photos? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I was one of the first to adopt reels as my primary form of content on here. Many resisted and their accounts stagnated, while mine grew. Some opined the Instagram of old that was just photos, while reels took off and went viral, blowing up accounts. Things just aren’t that simple now. I don’t see anyone growing at lightning speed. And I really don’t care about it anymore, tbh. I’m content with my following. I can’t control anything beyond what I post, and I’m gonna post what I want. If I have a photo I like, it goes up. If I have an idea to share, or an innovative product to review, I’ll make a reel. Im not posting just to post. I’m trying to let the app serve my purposes vs. serving the app. My time and sanity are more valuable to me than the numbers. We’ll see how that goes. ☺️ In the meantime, let’s find a good spot to camp. 🏷️ 4Runner overland offroad adventure #nittopitcrew #calrpitcrew

RTT PRO TIP 🔥🔥🔥 I added a second air mattress in the tent because my son was joining me on this trip. Squeezing down the tent to close it usually pretty easy, but with the extra bedding there was a lot more air that needed to be squeezed out of the mattresses and blankets. Using a simple trigger clamp made this so much easier, and I could leave the bedding in the tent saving a ton of room inside the rig. It also took a lot of pressure off the latches which usually give the tent the final squeeze. The clamp got the clamshell shut and the latches just flipped closed with little pressure needed. I carry a small clamp with me now and keep it in the back pick if the back seat for easy access when I’m closing the tent.
