🎼 Soloist Showcase and PINES OF ROME! Our concert is Sunday March 15th at 3:00pm.
The Symphony is featuring 6 soloists including vocalists: Amethyst Shanks and Helena Fuller and instrumentalists: Rose Candelaria (Violin), Erik Petrovich (Viola), Sophia Catania (Flute) and Apollo Wong (Piano)! We will also be premiering a new work composed by music major: Edwin Muñoz!
The concert will end with Respighi's Pines of Rome.

🎼Meet @calpolychoirs Soprano, Helena Fuller! Helena is a 4th year Music major who is performing with the Symphony for a second time after her previous solo debut in 2024! On March 15th, she will be singing "Depuis le jour" from "Louise" by Gustave Charpentier.

🎼Meet @calpolychoirs Soprano and Cal Poly Symphony's Violinist, Amethyst Shanks. A multi-talented SLO-cal musician who always dreamed to solo with the Symphony. Amethyst will be singing Mozart's concert aria titled "Ah se in ciel benigne stelle" at our March 15th concert!

🎼Meet Cal Poly Symphony Symphony violist, Erik Petrovich. Erik will be performing 2 movements from Ralph Vaughan Williams' Suite for Viola and Small Orchestra in exactly 2 weeks in March!

🎼 Directed by Dr. David Arrivée, the Cal Poly Symphony teamed up with the University Jazz Band to perform a Symphony x Jazz concert featuring works by Dimitri Shostakovich, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin.
The concert featured Ana Nelson on saxophone and clarinet for Ellington's "Three Black Kings" and Dr. Jamaal Baptiste's new work, "A Walk to Remember."

We had an exceptional time collaborating with @calpolysymphony in a first-of-its-kind Big Band and Symphony Concert! Over the last few months, students from each ensemble had the opportunity to experiment with both jazz and classical influences, culminating in Sunday’s performance in the Performing Arts Center. From “Cinco Salsa,” a Latin-influenced arrangement of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, to “A Walk to Remember,” an original composition by our own Dr. Jamaal Baptiste, every piece was a stunning display of hard work and talent. A special shout-out to soloist Professor Ana Nelson, who showcased her incredible saxophone abilities over “A Walk to Remember.” Congratulations to members of both the Big Band and Symphony—we can’t wait for the next one!

The Symphony will be performing jazz spin-offs of classical hits and inviting to the stage saxophonist Ana Nelson for Duke Ellington's Three Black Kings. We will also be premiering a new work by Jazz director Jamaal Baptist and performing Gershwin's 'An American in Paris.'
