Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that supporting our children’s emotional well-being doesn’t always require grand gestures. Sometimes it’s the small everyday moments that matter most. 💛 Creating space for connection, conversation, rest, and emotional honesty can help children feel seen, supported, and safe in a world that often feels overstimulating and overwhelming. Our Social Emotional Health Family Guide shares simple, research-backed tools families can use to help support emotional wellness, strengthen communication, and build healthier tech habits together. What do 5th graders really think about smartphones, social media, and growing up online? We asked. Their anonymous questions and reflections were honest, funny, thoughtful, and at times heartbreaking. What they shared reveals just how deeply kids are trying to make sense of technology, friendship, pressure, identity, and belonging in a digital world. This isn’t just a conversation about screen time. It’s a conversation about childhood. During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important to remember that kids learn from our best and worst habits every day, including the ways we use technology. Our relationship with screens can shape stress levels, emotional regulation, connection, and overall well-being for the entire family. Here are 4 mindful questions to reflect on what you may be modeling: • What message am I sending my children about technology use? • How does my digital device use affect my mood or stress levels? • How do I respond to notifications or digital interruptions? • How can I validate my child’s experience by sharing that I struggle sometimes, too? This Mental Health Awareness Month, take time to reflect, reconnect, and create healthier digital habits together. Kids today are constantly exposed to content about food, health, and body image — from content pushing unrealistic standards to “what someone ate in a day.” Over time, that exposure can shape how they see themselves. Repeated content can make unrealistic standards feel normal, and many posts are curated, edited, or designed to influence. Even when kids know something isn’t real, it can still impact how they feel. Research shows kids with problematic internet habits are 2x more likely to show signs of an eating disorder. Supporting kids starts with simple steps: ask what they’re seeing, listen, and help them make sense of it. Save this as a reminder. 💭 #MoveYourBodyCalmYourMind #MentalHealthAwareness

This Earth Day, we’re thinking about what it means to truly nurture the next generation—starting with how we move, eat, and connect to the world around us. Kids today are growing up surrounded by constant digital noise—and spending more time on screens than ever before. So today, we’re keeping it simple with a few ways to reconnect—with our bodies, our food, and our planet: 🌿 Go outside (even for 20 minutes) Unstructured outdoor time helps kids move more, reduce stress, and reconnect with nature. 🥕 Make food real again Talk about where food comes from and enjoy meals without screens to build a healthier relationship with food and our bodies. 🚶🏽‍♀️ Build movement into everyday life Walks, park time, dancing in the living room—it all counts. Small shifts can help kids move more and scroll less. 🌼 Get kids involved in preparing food Let them help pick, grow, or prepare meals—building curiosity and connection to what they eat. 🧘🏽‍♀️ Protect time to rest and recharge Create screen-free moments to slow down, reset, and be present together. 🌍 Reconnect with what’s real Step away from curated online messages and focus on real-world experiences—movement, meals, and time outdoors. Because raising healthy kids isn’t just about limiting screen time—it’s about helping them build a lifelong connection to their bodies and the world around them. 🌱 Explore our free Tech/Life Balance guides on movement and nutrition—link in bio

We talk about consent. But we don’t talk enough about connection. Or love. Or what it actually means to be in relationship with yourself and others. In a culture that stigmatizes sexuality, young people are often left to figure this out on their own. Our latest Substack with @shafiazaloom explores how we can show up differently—and why becoming an “askable adult” matters. Tap the link in bio to read.

“When you’re reaching for a device, pause and ask yourself, why am I reaching for this? What need might I be looking to fulfill? Can I fulfill that elsewhere?” This is the shift we’re leaning into—moving beyond just limiting screen time and getting curious about what young people actually need: connection, belonging, creativity, and space to just be. In our latest Substack, we share insights from youth voices on how families can co-create healthier relationships with technology—without removing agency. Because at the core of our work is this: supporting young people’s well-being is essential to advancing gender equity. 🔗 Click the link in bio to read our latest Substack. #GenderEquity #ChildWellBeing #TechLifeBalance #LinkInBio

Sometimes the best antidote to screens isn’t a screentime rule — it’s something better to do. This spring break, we’re thinking about how to create more space for freedom, movement, and real-world connection--the kind of independence many of us remember from the ’90s. Because while limiting devices can help, what often works better is building a life that feels engaging enough to compete with screens. A few simple ideas: ✨ choose the least-connected device when possible 🚲 encourage independent adventures 🎮 prioritize connection over perfection How are you helping your spring break like it's 1999 this year? #TechLifeBalance #SpringBreak #ChildWellBeing #ParentingTips #DigitalWellness #ScreenTimeBalance #ParentingLikeIts1999 #CaliforniaPartnersProject
