Today we’re revealing a story we’re proud to share... It all started on 10 February, 1851 ️ With the first sailing of Hutcheson & Co., under the direction of David MacBrayne. That beginning later became David MacBrayne, and later, Caledonian MacBrayne. From those first sailings to today, we celebrate a historic lineage, which has been serving Scotland for 175 years. Stay with us for more in our next post... #CalMac175 #ScottishHeritage #MaritimeHistory

@islay_sea_adventures is a boat tour company based on the beautiful Isle of Islay, offering a unique way to explore the island through a wide variety of trips. From wildlife and history tours to unforgettable sightseeing experiences along Islay’s coastline, every journey offers visitors the chance to see Islay from a different and unique perspective. At the heart of many of those trips is Harold, one of the skippers who helps bring the experience to life. Owned by Gus, the business has grown from strength to strength, working closely with local distilleries and giving visitors perfect photo opportunities from the sea. For many guests, it’s their first time out on the water. Spotting dolphins and other wildlife, taking in the dramatic coastline, and seeing the island from the water often leaves them completely blown away. It’s a side of Islay many visitors never forget. islayseaadventures #IslaySeaAdventures #Islay #WildlifeTours #Scotland #IslandLife

Rediscover the Island Magic ✨ In celebration of 175 years of CalMac’s roots, we’re proud to share another story from the islands. This one comes from Iona — thank you for sharing this cherished memory with us. Growing up visiting the Isle of Coll, Iona’s family learned that part of the magic of the islands is the people. One character who left a lasting impression was Neally John, a local fisherman with a generous heart. He would gift crabs for free, while family meals became moments of joy and anticipation as claws were cracked open at the table. “Part of the magic of the island is the community — and the people who make it.” Sometimes, it’s the people who make a place unforgettable. Where will your next journey take you? 🩵 📷: Iona Erskine #RediscoverTheIslandMagic #CalMac175 #IslandLife #IsleOfColl #Community #ScottishIslands

Meet our team: Terry. Terry has been part of the CalMac community for 25 years. For 20 of those years, she worked on the pier at Port Askaig, safely tying up the ferry as it arrived into port. Now Port Supervisor at Port Askaig, Terry says she is very proud to work for CalMac. For her, the port is the heartbeat of the island — a real community hub. People come to see us, she says, and they enjoy travelling with CalMac. Terry knows what these lifeline services mean to the islands and the people who call them home. She describes Islay and Jura as “magical” — and says it is “definitely worth it” to come and visit. One of our people behind the journey, Terry helps keep island life moving every day. #PeopleBehindTheJourney #MeetOurTeam #CalMacCareers

A final photo (and video) dump from the amazing recent trip over to Vatersay, Barra and Eriskay 😍 I’ll get to mainland content later this week I promise 😅 What a time though, from the amazing crossing over to Barra’s Castlebay from Oban on the Calmac ferry, seeing the famous castle in Castlebay for the first time with my own eyes, to my first climb of the hill to watch the sunset, every moment I spend out there felt special I’ll be back. And next time I’ll stay for longer And other recomendations for these islands? Drop them in the comments 👇

Wild, remote, and beautifully untamed 🌿✨ Tucked away on the Isle of Jura, Lussa Gin Distillery captures the spirit of the island in every bottle - from hand-foraged botanicals to the purest island water. Born from a chance conversation between 3 women in the summer of 2015, Lussa Gin is the result of shared passions, skills, and a deep love for Jura. Shaped by the island and supported by its close-knit community, every bottle tells a story of connection, place, and people. This isn’t just gin; it’s a taste of rugged coastlines, sea air, and slow island living. @lussagin @exploreislayandjura #LussaGin #IsleOfJura #ScottishGin #IslandLife #CraftSpirits #DrinkLocal

Meet our team: John. John started with us in 1983 and recently retired after years sailing as Master Relief across the fleet. He talks about how much the crew meant to him - and to the community. The children who couldn’t wait to see the ship and crew at the start of their holiday. The familiar faces travelling back and forward. He’s been one of the people behind the journey for over four decades. We wish him all the very best. 💙 #PeopleBehindTheJourney #MeetOurTeam #CalMacCareers
