here you find the fading fae - but you’re seeing the story told backwards the photographer’s concept: an artistic representation of the disconnect between mankind & nature, and the collective disenchantment from its magic (myself playing the fae, the symbol of nature’s magic in this allegory) i had a really beautiful experience in this shoot, especially as i was originally meant to be on bts instead but the situation changed last minute what was planned was moody weather, deteriorating forest from mankind’s corruptive hand, the fae wandering lost with her waning hope. yet, in the final photos of the day, something else emerged…a microcosm depiction of the re-enchantment we seek, if you will the first photos here weren’t planned in the original shoot brief. as we moved through the day, as expected, it’s uncomfortable. we’re traipsing the forest looking for locations that match the vision. my clothes keep getting caught on things. everything’s damp. i’m in it and welcoming it, but i’m also irritated and overwhelmed (anything for the shot) then in the final moments, i arrive. in the clearing the sun breaks through and i find myself in a single focus point: just experiencing the beauty of nature, dancing in the wind, my mind silent, my senses alive, in awe of it all. and perhaps i could submit to that feeling all the more so given the discomfort prior. the forces of nature work in tandem, after all - her fierce side deepens appreciation for her moments of tranquility we find a small tree peeking through; a seed of new growth, new hope, to be watered and tended to after destruction so whilst the original vision was to capture an essence of disenchantment, i suppose that in the end what i was called to bring is how deeply enchanted i am by all that i behold. and so i recount the story in hindsight with these pictures that are a transmission of my re-enchantment in real time see callum’s page for his side of the storytelling, and his website in bio for more concept, photography: @callumvision model, styling: @k.aila.n assisted by: @fyko__o @mintakarose @mintakacollective

Fading Fae Part 1 - Disenchantment The image came to me in a flash during a conversation. The single shot carried the weight of a world that’s lost its way. It carried the weight of a mother hurting from her own children. It carried a lover that’s been taken advantage of and abandoned. The image was that of the fading fae, the disconnect of mankind with its elemental nature. In this part 1 we explore the grief. Here an elemental stands in the graveyard of her own forest. Torn and shredded by the shadow of Man, helpless despair is all that remains. If you look closely, delicate saplings of new life hold the promise of renewal. However, Man’s growing disenchantment spreads with greed. Is there hope for the Fae? Will they be seen again, will the lands be cared for. Moments of enchantment are not far for us. In fact, they are all around us and in any moment we can be swept in the tide of something otherworldly. On a recent shoot, I was walking past this silver birch tree grove when I initially sensed it. At the time, I didn’t know what I was picking up on, yet I knew something was up. I was glancing through the trees as I walked past for a second time. A gap through the grove began to open up, the trees curved in a way that created a tunnel of light all the way through. My senses started heightening, my intuition was pinging, something was coming alive. This is the sensation of “the portal opening”. It’s here I know something is calling me, that there is a presence to be captured. Kailan brough along this perfect robe, and Fyko added an essential fern element. I step back and align myself to find the channel, subtly adjusting I feel myself slipping into a current of some kind. We can see this in the spiral contained within the image, where we are pulled into this mythic timeless being. It eludes to a sense of discovery, as if she is piercing through the veil from another world. But the lady isn’t the only being here, there’s more life to this piece than initially meets the eye. If you look close enough, you’ll see them there. This is the land of enchantment, an elemental portal revealing layers to reality slightly beyond our perception. Birth of Venus continues

A welcome shift is underway as you transition into a new chapter of your life. The journey of becoming is not easy, but it is worth every challenge. Still there is more climbing to be done, but this mountain as been conquered and you are fuller for it. I wanted to breakdown some of the symbolism in my first framed piece. These layers of meaning unravel themselves the more I am with the art - I see myself and my journey reflected in each corner, perhaps that’s one of the things that makes the process of creating so enchanting and meaningful. This is a story we all share, the continuous upward spirals of evolution and heroic journeys in which we embark. Each time we come closer to ourselves, we go deeper and expand wider. There’s something benevolent in our growth, no matter how painful it can be at times. May this piece be a reminder of your power and strength. May it symbolise all you’ve endured and who you now stand as. I send you my love for the journeys ahead.
