“Learning You” is a heartfelt dramedy inspired by true events, following Ty Smith, a struggling architect and father, as he embarks on an impulsive Christmas road trip with his autistic son, Elijah. Seven years after a traumatic family Christmas and the collapse of his marriage, Ty is faced with a choice: surrender Elijah to the state or fight for connection, healing, and hope. Along the way, Ty is haunted and hilariously helped by Elijah’s imaginary companion, a life-sized version of his beloved stuffed bear, Nook. What begins as a desperate act becomes a journey of rediscovery, reminding us that joy, like family, often shows up in unexpected places.

Learning You was created to build awareness for those who may not yet see or understand the lives of autistic individuals, to foster connection for parents and caregivers who often feel alone, and to offer tangible moments where families of special needs can come together, feel welcomed, and experience the gift of “normal” time side-by-side.
