BEHIND THE SCENES A look into the production of ‘Laughing in the Wilderness’ by Samuel Virgo. To experience the full film, go through the link in bio ^ The one day shoot took place across two studios in East London. The ‘White Room’ was largely lit with Arri lights placed on the ground to create a backlight effect, with duvateny placed overhead and either side of the performers to create contrast. The ‘spinning light’ effect was created through various light panels being placed on C - stands programmed via a wireless app operated by our gaffer. This pulsing effect gave an energy to the live performances and was perfect for in camera transition for the edit. The ‘Studio’ was lit largely with practicals, once the team had redesigned the space. With a spotlight on the main performer Samuel, our gaffer then blasted a Dido light onto a mirror to create a ‘searchlight’ effect. The video was shot on the Blackmagic 6k and Sony VHS cameras. Edited and colour graded on Da Vinci Resolve. Despite our small team and tight schedule, moving across East London between two different studios (with a nice Jamaican lunch pit stop) everyone pulled their weight, moving together to bring our shared vision to life.
