A HUGE thank you to all those who donated to this year’s Spring Campaign! With your support, we raised over $69,000, blowing our $50K goal out of the water. We appreciate this amazing community for the continued support and for being part of our pledge to Doug Johnson, Executive Director of 24 years, to keep Cal-IPC a leader in advocating for WMAs, sharing resources and tools with land managers, training the next and current generations, and supporting on-the-ground work across the state.
As part of Cal-IPC's workforce development focus, we have teamed up with Oakland Civicorps to create the Civicorps Outdoor Leadership Adventures (COLA) program, where Corpsmembers and Crew Leaders develop project management skills by creating, organizing, and leading outdoor trips for their peers. The most recent trip was a hike along the Cataract Falls trail in Marin to catch all the post-rain waterfalls!
Did you know that restoring ecosystems not only helps the land, but also has economic benefits for local communities?
A recent economic analysis of large-scale restoration projects in state parks on the CA North Coast shows that investments in public lands not only restore ecosystems, they create meaningful, well-paying jobs that benefit the local economy. It highlights how regional restoration initiatives comprised of multiple partners demonstrates how high-quality jobs can be sustained while helping to heal the landscape.

Thank you to the many friends who have already donated to the 2026 Spring Campaign. The final day to donate is tomorrow, April 30th!
As the 2026 Spring Fundraiser comes to a close, we want to again highlight the outstanding contributions of Doug Johnson, Cal-IPC’s Executive Director for 24 years, as he steps down to a support role as Executive Director Emeritus and addresses health challenges. Your gift to the Spring Campaign will help Cal-IPC provide crucial tools and support for land managers across the state. With your help, we're providing key education opportunities, guiding on-the-ground projects, and advocating for stronger policy and funding to protect California from the threat of invasive plants.
We appreciate you for your partnership in this important work.

Support our work and celebrate Doug Johnson’s service!
Spring is here and the wildland weeds are growing! This year, be part of our fundraising pledge to longtime Executive Director Doug Johnson in honor of his truly inspirational 24 years of service leading Cal-IPC's work on behalf of land stewardship in California.
Cal-IPC advocates for Weed Management Areas, shares resources and tools with land managers, trains the next and current generation, and supports work on-the-ground across the state. To provide these resources, we rely on contributors like you. When you donate to our Spring Campaign (April 18-30) you're supporting us with “golden dollars” that can be used wherever they’re most needed. We secure grants to cover specific projects, but there are lots of other needs such as general organizational, inventory, and website support, as well as outreach and advocacy!

Passing of the torch...
After leading Cal-IPC for 24 years, Executive Director Doug Johnson has announced his retirement, effective April 1. Our Board of Directors has selected Science Program Director Jutta Burger to succeed Doug as Executive Director.
Since he was hired as Cal-IPC’s first staff person in 2002, Doug has steadily grown Cal-IPC’s capacity to serve California’s land stewardship community. He says that working with the Cal-IPC community has been “a source of great joy, creativity, and fulfillment in my life!”
Jutta has led Cal-IPC’s conservation programs since 2018 and she is excited to continue her work with Cal-IPC’s fantastic staff, board, and our larger community in this new capacity. We thank Doug for his exceptional vision and dedication in making Cal-IPC the widely respected and impactful organization it has become. And we are excited for the next chapter with Jutta at the helm as we work to protect wildlands and strengthen land stewardship across California and beyond!
