Yesterday's parliamentary meeting on uterine fibroids brought together key stakeholders to address this overlooked public health crisis. The APPG on Black Health, chaired by @paulettehamiltonmp and secretariat by CAHN, convened experts, parliamentarians and healthcare leaders to examine systemic inequities in fibroid care.
Expert speakers included Prof Faye Ruddock, Dr @lorettamfd , Dr @edmondediosagie , @tina.backhouse.35 and Dr Priscilla Day-Walsh. We were also graced by Candice Bryan which shared with us were long life journey with Fibroids.
We were joined by parliamentarians Paulette Hamilton MP, @chelfulhamben MP and @marshadecordova_ MP, alongside @royalcollegeobsandgynae representative Kate Lancaster and our CE @charleskod .
CAHN's rapid scoping review highlighted three immediate priorities:
Targeted research on vitamin D deficiency and fibroid development
Improved ethnicity data collection across healthcare systems
Development of culturally competent care pathways
We are now preparing a comprehensive report for the @dhscgovuk , calling for policy reform that recognises #fibroids as a significant public health issue.
When 80% of women in certain communities face a condition that devastates quality of life and fertility, silence is no longer an option.
Thank you our sponsors The Health Foundation and Theramex, without financial backing and involvement we can't shift the dial.

We're delighted to share that CAHN is delivering Year 2 of the Windrush Compensation Advocacy Support Fund (WCASF) across the North West of England.
The scheme, funded by the @ukhomeoffice , exists to help Windrush Compensation Scheme claimants get free, practical, one-to-one support with their application. Our advocates help claimants gather evidence, complete forms, and articulate their story in a way that gives their claim the best chance of being viable and eligible.
Support is confidential and delivered by advocates who understand the cultural and personal context behind every claim.
If you work with someone in the North West who may be eligible, please share or get in touch: [email protected]
