25 YEARS OF CAFE 1001 ON TOUR ✈️
There will be many folks out there who don’t know just how long Cafe 1001 has stood in its Brick Lane home, and you might be surprised to read that as of this year, we have been here for a whopping 25 YEARS!
If walls could talk, they would no doubt reel off thousands of stories, crossing the lives of countless people, maybe even you have a tale or two to share?
Some stories, of course, are probably best kept within the walls though, if you know what we mean.
No birthday would be complete without a party, but we do those all the time, so why do just one? And why keep it only here in London? We are 25 years old after all. It’s time we flew the nest. With that, we are overjoyed to announce ‘’25 Years of Cafe 1001 On Tour.’’
Across the year, we will traverse Europe, visiting our counterparts in Germany, Switzerland, France and Portugal, with partners including Kasheme in Zurich, Unkompress in Berlin and Boavista Social Club in Porto, amongst many others.
We will be connecting with the spaces and faces that share our passion for music, sound and connection, and then inviting them back to London for what we believe is a first of its kind hifi cultural exchange.
Kicking off next week, our team will be packing their record bags and heading off to our first stop on the tour, The Big Romance in Dublin, taking over the decks all night long.
If you’re in town, come through and say hey.
Happy Birthday to us x
Rounding off our @keephush_ linkup for RSD 2026, @sam_neek joins us for an hour of Dub and Reggae 🎶⏭️📻 Listen in full on the Radio 1001 YouTube channel
Brick Lane ✈️ Nijmegen
Another inspiring stop on our 25 Years of Cafe 1001 Tour.
What the team at Marini Records & PAAK have built is nothing short of amazing, and deserves to be celebrated on every level.
A space that wears many hats, but wears them all so well, is near impossible to come by. An INSANELY well curated record store inside a beautiful cocktail bar, powered by the sound system of dreams and a dance floor full of curious, party ready patrons.
Pulling something like this off is no small feat in any city, but to resist the temptation of a larger, more established capital and instead dig your heels in to deliver an experience of this calibre in your hometown is an achievement in itself. PAAK is the very definition of “build it and they will come.”
Big love to Marini for the hospitality and the records, and of course to our pal Sam Don for joining us and, as usual, absolutely nailing it.
PAAK land at 1001 for the return leg on Friday 19th June, and if you know what’s good for you, you won’t want to sleep on this.
Music of the Week - Donald Byrd - Places and Spaces - Blue Note
When you think of jazz funk, surely this is the first album that comes to mind? It might just be Donald Byrd’s magnum opus, not to take anything away from his earlier Blue Note Records work, which includes some of the label’s very best releases. Then again, that could be said for most of their catalogue; let’s be real, there.
But on Places and Spaces, Byrd sounds like he was always meant to make jazz funk. It’s a seamless shift from jazz into something smoother, funkier, and more expansive. If you hadn’t heard any of his previous work, you’d think you’d just discovered a completely different artist. From the ever-catchy “Dominoes” all the way through to “Wind Parade,” the album never lets up.
Love 1001.
