Another cool / fun show from our friends at @otherworldlyartscollective - this time a plant-themed show “Green Haus” curated by @opaquepastels . A huge number of pieces and as always, there is a great mix of medias and a spectrum from earnest and dark to quirky and whimsical.
ALTR Gallery is a bit off the beaten path from the main Art-A-Whirl craziness and is across the hall from @norseman_distillery so if you are looking to see something cool and also chill out away from the big crowds for a bit, I highly recommend going this weekend.
Real cute Mother’s Day Scene up at Lake Harriet where there are at least 5 brand-new Mallard moms - some with as many as 10 new ducklings.
Still waiting on the brood in my backyard to hatch - probably getting close…
Happy Mother’s Day in memory of my Ma, Mary Pinney Erickson. And to Janey Winterbauer, my kids’ mom. (both pictured here in 2019 with my niece Samantha and her daughter Callie). And to all my many friends who are mothers. Hope it’s a great day for all of you.
The 10th and final prompt for Songwriter Challenge is “Cumulate”. This has been a blast to do, and thank you all for listening to my dreary, introspective folk pop tunes over the last few months. I’ve gotten so many incredible comments and messages and that is a big part of what kept me doing it.
I love the ideas behind this project - writing to a prompt, making raw non-studio recordings and just…keeping up a writing pace. I wasn’t sure how it was gonna go but I ended up with 10 songs I actually like, 3 of which might even make it onto my record. So, time well spent I think.
Thanks to @sarahmorrismusic for encouraging me - and many others - to do this. And thanks for listening.
There’s bridge over this lake
But I don’t know if it’s designed to
Take the weight
Of everything I dragged across it
Every win and
Every loss I take
Call it my curse
Call it the ramblings of a broken mind
I wanted to believe
That I could bend and fold and make you mine
But I needed to be everything
To everyone
All the time
And the choir of fallen angels sings
It’s fine,
This is fine
Every street and every sign
A headstone for the troubles
In this life
A map of all the worst mistakes
A man can make
When anything is on the line
Call it my fault
The tears, the salt, the blood, the brine
Nothing I wanted more
Than to leave it all behind
But I needed to be everything
To everyone
All the time
And the choir of fallen angels sings
It’s fine,
This is fine
This is fine
This is fine
May the 4th Be With You. You all know that Star Wars is one of my favorite things, and favorite art subjects. Here is a throwback to the most detailed and most ambitious Star Wars digital painting I ever made, back in 2020 when we had time for things like this I guess.
I typically I spend 1 or 2 days on a piece but I worked on this on and off for about 2 weeks. The result was worth it but I’ve struggled to find that same level of ambition and focus since.
It depicts the pretty epic Ahsoka Tano / Morgan Elsbeth duel from the TV show “The Mandalorian”. When I shared this on Twitter back in the day it got shared (with amazing compliments) by Diana Inosanto - the actor/martial artist depicted in the scene.
This is actually quite large resolution-wise, so I included a few detail crops.
More Star Wars art coming from me in the future, no doubt.

Just discovered that this adorable Mallard made a nest and laid eggs in one of my planters outside my kitchen window. I accidentally scared her off when I opened the window but assured her she could come back. Pretty smart place to have a nest - very defensible from air and ground predators. As a friend of the neighborhood ducks I am into this. I’ll try and get pics of the ducklings when they hatch, in the meantime here are a few pics of the nest, eggs and unusually chill and cute mother duck.
EDIT - the internet tells me it’s probably 2 or 3 weeks til they hatch and that they bolt for water almost immediately. I’ll keep an eye out.
