During the past weeks I was working on a quite special project for
@wwplus_architecture_urbanism
Each year they are appointing local artists to create the artworks for their Christmas cards. This year they choose me, which really honoured me.
Basically the task was quite easy: they asked me to stroll around Luxembourg and to take some street photos, ideally with some of their objects as a backdrop. Sounded like a dream project - and it really was.
Eventually I came up with a series of about 30 photographs, which compiled into a series I called „The Architecture of Emotions“.
Four of them are now featured on the cover of
@wwplus_architecture_urbanism this year‘s Christmas cards, which are limited to an edition of 170 copies per motif. Furthermore, WW+ acquired large prints (60x40cm) of these motifs, limited to an edition of 2.
About the series:
The Architecture of Emotions
How do we perceive architecture in everyday life?
I explored this question while creating my photo series for WW+, through walks that led past various WW+ projects and locations. After all, capturing unposed, human moments in everyday life is essentially what my work as a street photographer is all about. So, I quickly concluded that architecture would play a rather secondary role in my series. It would form the stage on which life takes place – the people, on the other hand, are the protagonists. In this context, the stage and the protagonist, i.e. architecture and people, enter an interactive relationship. Our environment influences our perception and thus ultimately our emotions. My series of four motifs describe emotions that the protagonists on these stages might have felt:
