Via Palmanova
by Giacomo Silva and Alex Piacentini
.
This series documents the resistance of palm trees in urban contexts in an ironic take on urban photography. The artists use a WhatsApp chat to exchange photos of out-of-place palm trees. The booklet is built on contrasts: the happiest of plants in the most shabby, inhospitable places, basic office paper and precious hand-sawn binding.
The format replicates that of the smartphone, device that is at the heart of the process used to take, store, transmit the images. The zine is enclosed in a risograph-printed hand-sawn envelope made with repurposed sewing drawing dotted paper, and includes emoji sized palm stickers that readers can use to brighten up their neighbourhoods.

About the artists
Giacomo Silva and Alex Piacentini both work as designers, technicians and artisans. One of them is rooted in printing techniques, the other in digital media. Both like to explore boundaries of the media they use, and do so in both their commercial work and in their research.
