Pride Pt 2
1. Yessss it was time to DANCE.
2. And we danced and we danced and we danced.
3. One of the things I love about living in the neighborhood during Pride is that I get a great view. And now you get a great view too. Photo credit to Mason the pervert. 🫶
4. We split up and I went with Mountain to the Blind Barber, and happened to arrive at the same time as Wendy, Shane, Jon, and Courtney, which was a lovely serendipity.
5. From there, we gathered some more PQH folk and regrouped back at my place for some needed downtime. I DJed some and ate pizza rolls and became a person again.
6. Crosby gets their own slide because of course.
7. This fucking cutie pie.
8. Before long Ty and a gaggle of our beautifully chaotic lesbian friends arrived, and we went with them to the W for Sazón, which was a terrific move. The chaotic lesbians are not pictured or named because they probably don’t want the few pics/videos I have of them on here. 😅 But you were instrumental and wonderful and I’m so glad you were a part of the day. 🙏 We got to the W and I danced HARD. My soul left my body and it was transcendent.
9. Stephanie and Ty and co. were a delightfully giggly bunch.
10. Cleo shared everything he learned about gender transition with Jared.
11. Ty! But a r t s y
12. Cleo and I 🧡
13. The vibe
14. The bathrooms in the W have stupid good lighting; that’s not my fault.
15. We migrated to Franky Bradley’s and met up with more friends for another few hours of glorious gay dancing.
16. G I N A and DJ Xtina spun for 7 hours that day. 😱 This is G I N A ‘s hand and I thought it looked cool.
17. All my friends are so attractive. ALL of them. Including you reading this. 😘
18. Sarah catching a viiiibe.
19. As the night drew to a close, Cleo was expressing the full freedom of his spirit with Foster, who we met that night. This clip of them dancing to the last song of the weekend fully exemplifies an important part of what queer joy can look like, and it makes my heart happy.
20. Yup that about sums it up.
If a picture’s worth a thousand words, I could still write thousands more: i love you i love you i love you i love you i love you i love you i love you i love you i love…💚
Pride Weekend, Pt 1
1. Cleo came to visit! He’s a lifer and amazing and I’m so glad he came up for Pride. 💕 Here he is getting his first mani-pedi.
2. At various points we discussed gender transition. As we geared up to head out Friday night, he shared his biggest takeaway from the day.
3. We went to MilkBoy to celebrate Sarah’s birthday and see Swan Meat, who was preceded by a b2b set from @americaluvsme and @angeljellycore , two of my favorite Philly DJs that you should totally check out.
4. In case you were unaware, jumping up and down to abrasive high-BPM music is my happy place. This is that.
5. Polaroid of Cleo and I, courtesy of Sincere. 🫶
6. Swan Meat closed her set by playing Neutral Milk Hotel, which was completely unexpected and entirely delightful.
7. It was completely downpouring when we left MilkBoy; I giggled hysterically the entire three-block walk home, but Cleo had a slightly different opinion on the situation.
8. As we waited for the Uber to take us to Porchfest, Cleo expanded upon his understanding of the effects of estrogen.
9. Cleo told me to turn around so he could take this cute picture of me. I obliged.
10. At Porchfest the beautiful Filo Sofia serenaded us with some lovely originals as well as this cover of Jolene.
11. We met up with the unreasonably photogenic Jared and stopped for a potty break and water.
12. Cat.
13. Cleo and Jared and I went to Whoremones, a queer dance party at WoW. It was slutty.
14. After that we went to dance at someplace even sluttier. It was great.
15. After 3 1/2 hours of sleep, 20mg Vyvanse, and a solid 64oz of Gatorade, it was time for Pride! Folks came over for breakfast (I didn’t get a picture of you Helen, I’m sorry! But I’m glad you were there 🙂), and then we were out on the town. Here’s the gorgeous divas Em and Lara shielding the lens on my phone from how brightly they shine.
16. Mountain, the devil, the cutie!
17. Cleo had a banana. This was a big deal.
18. The divas! 😍😍
19. The marvelous Emily and Brooke hamming it up as we walked down 13th St.
20. I got stabbed in New Jersey. New state motto?
I only saw 23 concerts this year! Not including the COVID years, that’s my lowest number since 2018. Here are the top ten I enjoyed the most.
10. St. Vincent - Silly lady climbed up the wall.
9. Nia Archives - Just some great high-bpm drum and bass.
8. Fred again.. - Not my favorite Fred show, but it was still cool to see him do a headlining show at my favorite festival.
7. Avalon Emerson - So much dancing!
6. Chappell Roan - A great show, but unfortunately standing in the 95-degree heat with no shade made this one drop down a little.
5. Caribou - Nothing but bangers with tons of live instrumentation; one of the best bands to see live imo.
4. Sofi TUKKER - Highly enjoyable (if somewhat derivative) electro-pop. This was a free show sponsored by a PA weed company, and I was right up on the rail dancing my ass off. Sorry to make y’all turn your phones sideways but this is also one of the best pictures I took of the year but IG is being dumb with the aspect ratio.
3. Sigur Rós with the Philadelphia Orchestra - Beautiful, ethereal, soaring. Was moved to tears more than a few times.
2. Charli XCX & Troye Sivan - The pinnacle of Brat summer, and being in the pit was electric. You could tell that a decent amount of the people in the crowd weren’t die-hards though (I’ve been in a crowd full of die-hard Charli queers before, and that show was a 10/10), which is probably the only reason this show wasn’t #1.
1. Justice - These guys fuck. Absolutely incredible show - lighting, sound, performance - being in the pit was great. Def go see them if you get the chance.
