This project begins by extracting the number seven from the classic Seven Deadly Sins, transforming it from a fixed moral framework into a conceptual structure - a rhythm, a sequence, and a set of fractures through which the city can be read: To be here in New York City, an iconic city, and see how its cracks are engraved on others, within the shared fragilities of urban life.
Featuring the representation of digital-based arts from 7 cross-cultural artists - from Việt Nam to Chicago to NYC, 7 Sins of NYC brings new light to an old concept and transforms it into a futuristic-modern theme, in order to explore the dual nature of a city shaped by human aspirations - where desires, ambitions, and personal needs intertwine to create a “city of longing.” You can find the representation of a modern, fast-paced city anywhere and everywhere, and the flashiness of such a city is nothing more than just a cover for all the painful struggles underneath.
7 Sins of NYC seeks to bring the idea of the city into a different light: to illuminate the city we simultaneously worship and endure, to reveal its quiet divinity alongside the unavoidable weight we carry while living within it. Through this interplay, the urban landscape emerges not as a fixed narrative of success or failure, but as a layered, fragile, and deeply shared condition: one shaped by longing, tension, and the persistent search for meaning within the fractures of contemporary life. In this context, each individual must confront and battle their own inner “demons”. This struggle creates a contradictory yet profoundly authentic and humane urban landscape.
