A lot has been learned over these past four semesters, but art is not about knowledge, it is about answering the questions we ask ourselves as we reflect inwards. I think it was the great professor Vanessa that raised the question “which one is sexier? is that a question we can ask in class? yeah, i think so. that’s a historical question.” And to her point I say, yes let’s entertain the notion of which “one” is sexier. If we accept that sexiness is a construct shaped by historical, cultural, and performative forces—as Foucault and Butler might argue—then asking ‘which one is sexier’ isn’t just appropriate, it’s essential to understanding power and identity.
And in that spirit, after careful consideration of aesthetics, presence, and historical resonance, I’d have to conclude: I am and therefore the sexier one. Here’s to two more years yall!!
