Ruana Reptiliana🐍
This project reimagines the traditional
Colombian ruana using a discarded hose found near a trash can in Madrid, repurposed into a faux snakeskin-like, water-resistant “fabric” through heat manipulation. Rooted in experimentation, the process involved extensive material tests, exploring both mechanical and chemical techniques.
The fabrication, resembling the act of skinning a snake, resulted in a flexible, innovative piece that honors my cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of craft and design.
Made the easiest and most beautiful natural dyes -
With cabbage I made three shades (purple/ pink/ blue that dried like green) and from turmeric (yellow and orange) the different shades were achieved by altering the mixtures ph (with baking soda or lemon juice) I am never buying artificially dyed yarn again😛
This is what happens when you put me in a box…🤸🏻♀️
The wooden slabs were cut and perforated by a cnc machine, the rounded joints were modeled on Rhino and 3D printed (they attach with a screw mechanism) - the yarn woven into the wood and the wood were dyed with cabagge and tumeric -

For the Surrealist Photoshoot we played with thread curtains, styled on the models as draping accessories! In the final shot these met in between them to create a Rapunzel like fountain of golden hair !
