Diseñé este vestuario para Denise Gutiérrez utilizando piel vegana de @bysentient , un material desarrollado a partir de residuos de la industria del aceite de oliva (sí, aceitunas). Pulpa, pieles y huesos que se transforman en una alternativa con estructura, presencia y movimiento en el escenario.
Más allá del look, también era importante que la pieza estuviera alineada con cómo entendemos la moda hoy: diseño, durabilidad y nuevas formas de crear sin recurrir a materiales de origen animal.
Esto fue solo el inicio… porque este outfit todavía tiene varias vidas más y nosotros muchas ideas pendientes.

After months of silence on social media, I’m returning to share something important.
Over the past few years, SENTIENT has been much more than a brand to me. It was born from a conviction that is simple, yet impossible to ignore: animals are sentient beings. They are capable of feeling pain, fear, and attachment to life. Turning their skin into a fashion object is to pretend that pain can somehow be transformed into beauty, a reality my values could no longer ignore, which ultimately led me to found this brand.
SENTIENT was created to demonstrate that design and the Mexican tradition of leather craftsmanship can exist without depending on the suffering of another living being, and that material innovation can open new possibilities for fashion.
I have lived this vision with my whole heart for nearly five years. But building something like this also comes with a very real human cost. Last year, I reached a point of physical and emotional exhaustion that forced me to stop and ask myself how to move forward.
Changing an industry as large as fashion, especially from a country like Mexico and as an independent brand, is a path filled with challenges rarely visible from the outside.
For now, SENTIENT will pause its design and production of handbags (B2C).
There comes a moment when the most responsible act is also knowing when to stop.
This journey has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. Thank you to everyone who has believed in SENTIENT, who has carried our pieces, and who continues to believe that together we can build a more conscious industry.
Our products will remain available until June.

Mi nombre es Jimena y soy la humana detrás de cada acierto, desacierto, prueba y error que ha habido detrás de Sentient. Soy el corazón, cuerpo y cerebro detrás de cada post, producto, elección de material, y copy que existe… todo pasa por mis ojos o es creado por mí.
Construir Sentient ha retado y expandido cada célula que me compone: me he transformado en una mejor versión de quién soy. He conocido y he sido apoyada por personas increíbles en este camino, he creado amistades de vida y hasta he reforzado vínculos vitales. Mis socios son mi esposo, Juan Pablo, y una de mis mejores amigas, Paty 🤍 ellos han creído en mí y me han impulsado desde el lugar más amoroso.
Antes de Sentient, era abogada, en temas de igualdad de género, derechos humanos, protección ambiental y derechos de los animales.
