What does it mean to be sustainable in fashion? For me, one of the keys is extending the lifespan of a garment. As a style artist, my work is always evolving, and finding new ways to restyle a piece is a challenge I truly love to take on. The piece I’m wearing here was part of the closing look for my RE:BORN/EO collection at Borneo Fashion Week 2025. This top has gone through two phases of design — first created for @alenamurang ‘s @malaysianphilharmonicorchestra show, and later redesigned for my collection. Cowrie shells and brass bells embellish the silhouette of the vest top, reminiscent of a traditional Bornean male warrior’s attire, often worn with a loincloth. Overall, this piece was inspired by my last visit to the @borneoculturesmuseum . The perks of having people around who look like models. @sharminesyahira decked in my RE:BORN/EO pieces — a look that truly feels made for her. Deconstructed denim pants transformed into a halter-neck corset top and a skirt with a front slit, embellished with brass bells that create a whimsical crescendo with every step she takes. #reborneobysaerah #sustainablefashion #borneofashionweek2025

What better place to wear one of my RE:BORN/EO pieces than at a music festival — by a river, no less. Day 1 at @rajangrivermusicfestival and I’m wearing my RE:BORN/EO denim skirt-belt, finished with tating kain embellishments with actual silver coins along the hem. An all-black ensemble has been my preference these days. Swipe to the last slide to see how it was styled for Borneo Fashion Week 2025. #reborneobysaerah #sustainablefashion #borneofashionweek2025

One of my favourite things about my RE:BORN/EO collection is seeing the pieces find their own life beyond the studio. Behind the scenes with @alenamurang at @rajangrivermusicfest — reconstructed denim worn around soundchecks, instruments and quiet moments before the show begins. Finished with raw edges and little brass ornament details that catch the light just enough. #reborneobysaerah #sustainablefashion

So excited for @susanwithaspace and her european tour happening this week. All the best for the shows, make us proud — my cult baddie 🖤❤️ Worked on Susan’s performance look for the tour, and the first thing that came to mind was creating an artwear piece that could transform into many looks and versions throughout the performances. Keeping true to her style DNA, the look had to feel eclectic, haunting, raw and slightly theatrical. Black and red dominate the palette — a combination we often return to when styling Susan — colours that ooze mystery, tension and excitement on stage. Upcycled from old clothing pieces (some belonging to Susan herself), we created a 5-piece ensemble with additional accessories to complete the world of the look. The main star is the beaded veil featuring an ornamental eye, inspired by one of Susan’s songs about a ghost bride. The eye represents the things we see and cannot unsee — a vessel between the spiritual and physical world, watching, remembering and haunting all at once. Can’t wait to see the final looks in action. In the meantime, here’s a teaser from her recent show at @livefactkl to kick off the Wicked Angel Tour. Photos at Live Fact KL by @aqif.jpg #styleartist #visualartist #susanwithaspace #artwear

The best kind of work is when we get to travel to new places, immerse ourselves in a new environment, and have the pleasure of meeting new faces as well as familiar ones. For @rajangrivermusicfest , I styled @alenamurang ’s look in mixed prints, emboldened with indigenous motifs that are distinctly Sarawak. Sarawak batik reworked into a body strap and belt, layered over a soft Orang Ulu patterned co-ord set. We finished the look with red beaded earrings, a mini kabo necklace (thank you @sharminesyahira ), and a macramé layer with cowrie shells by @shikinnorazam — all adding depth, texture, and story. A look shaped through collaboration with amazing people — a touch of Borneo rain, culture, and heritage seen through a contemporary artwear lens. @simmy_musiq ’s look was styled by @maizatulyasmin , who also crafted the cowrie shell earrings to echo Alena’s vibe — a look created from Simmy’s mum’s outerwear, with a touch of Borneo. Speaking of cowrie shells, I couldn’t help but match my own look with the band — wearing my RE:BORN/EO top from last year’s @borneofashionweek26 collection. #neoindigenousfashion #styledbystyllar #rajangrivermusicfestival

Draped in red, moving like a song. An exploration in texture—layered tulle, structured satin— anchored by Iban necklace, red and white beaded adornment threaded by Aunty Victoria from @victorias_enterprise This is power. This is rhythm. Tradition, reimagined as artwear— a quiet seduction in motion. . . Beads, brass, silver coins, little echoes of where I come from. Feeling a little extra cool in barrel jeans. #fitfortheday
