A moment of time six years ago never to be forgotten. Covid ravaged the city, as we watched corpses being hauled out to idling ambulances like slabs of meat right out of our windows. Made the Covid denying conspiracies all the more infuriating. But here, a moment of truth and beauty
Taking a minute from excessive American Ugly to celebrate positive happenings and milestones…like, oh say, 25 years full-on with Doug (thanks babe!), starting Medicare (phew!), and having a portrait of Doug and I hang in Wolfgang Tillmans’ show, Rien ne nous y préparait − Tout nous y préparait [“Nothing could have prepared us − Everything could have prepared us”] at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. You know, as one does 🤪. Wolfgang shot the portrait at our Fire Island home in September 2023, after interviewing me about 80s Berlin for BUTT… where recollections of scurrilous junky hustler antics within the American expat underground might’ve left Wolfgang questioning one’s sanity…namely mine! “I will let you know once I gathered thoughts for your Berlin ‘accounts’ :).” LOL oh well, had to be in it to win it back then. And at this point in time, I am grateful in feeling that I have. So thanks @dougharris40 , thanks @wolfgang_tillmans , thanks LBJ for a rollicking summer of healthcare, and thanks @davidmarvin_instagraham for snapping the pics while passing through the Pompidou 👍🏽 #centrepompidou #wolfgangtillmans #80sberlin #80sberlinpunk
On this Presidents’ Day, I find myself thinking of revolution. Principled progress —at times achieved through rebellion — has long charted the course of the western hemisphere, as our beloved neighbors to the south can equally attest. And history does have a way of repeating itself. Shot most of these at the Museum of National History in Mexico City’s Chapultepec Park last February. See you at the barricades!
