Join us Saturday May 9th for Carry the Blues: Austin RUCK N ROLL Society’s First Community Music Walk for Mental Health.
At 9am on the 9th, Austin’s music community will come together to raise awareness of mental health support in our venues, our stages, and our city. Carry the Blues will bring together those who perform, produce and attend the live performances of Austin.
Hosted by the SIMS Foundation, Buzz Mill Coffee, and Squatch Frontier Fitness, the day will blend outdoor movement, music history, live music and community gathering for one shared experience.
We will start at Buzz Mill Coffee on E. Riverside to gather for coffee and to load up a ruck/backpack with weight of your choosing anywhere from 10-50 lbs. Then we will begin the 2.1 mile walk to the Stevie Ray Vaughn statue near Auditorium Shores. Along the way, Raoul Hernandez- longtime Austin Chronicle music writer and University of Texas journalism professor will share the story of SRV, the city that shaped him, and the legacy and fingerprint he leaves behind in Austin today.
At the statue we will take a water break and hang out for a short three song tribute set from an emerging Austin guitarist that will bring the moment to life. Not by photocopying the past but showing what makes this community unique, honor and respect as we innovate.
After the tribute we will head back to the fort to gather together over breakfast tacos, a vendor village and open jam session on the Buzz Mill stage. Squatch Fitness will also be providing cold plunges for recovery.
Carry the Blues is a chance to come together to support. From the musicians, to the sound engineers, the bartenders, the security and the even the fans this is who makes this city feel alive.
In addition raising awareness and money for Sims Foundation who has been serving this community since 1995 by providing mental health care and substance use recovery services. Because behind every set, every show, every late night, there’s a person carrying something and they shouldn’t have to carry alone.
Join us as we come together Saturday May 9th at 9am, click in our bio to grab your spot.
